Owls Set To Make Gerrard Move

Owls Set To Make Gerrard Move

No, not Steven, but Wednesday are set to make a move to bring Cardiff City centre-back Anthony Gerrard to Hillsborough on a loan deal this week.

Owls boss Alan Irvine still wants to add another defender to his squad to take the tally to eight and Gerrard is understood to be his man.

The former Walsall defender has been told he can leave the Welsh club by boss Dave Jones after falling down the pecking order at the Championship club.

A deal is thought to be a loan one given Wednesday's current financial situation but it could be with a view to a permanent transfer.

The move is set to heighten speculation linking Mark Beevers with a move away from S6 but it's thought any move for Gerrard would be initially as cover.

Good to see Wednesday are signing Gerrard, pigs bottom of league, life don't get any better, well pigforlife said they were big club, well now we know, you need to be big to hold the rest of the league up.

Don't get me wrong I hold Gerrard in high regard but can somebody please tell me why Hinds doesn't get in the team, I think he has been the best defender for years

i think hinds is a good defender but he has no pace and doesnt pass the ball well. not played for ages so probably not match fit enough to get ahead of purse.

honestly i think hinds is our worst defender, slow and clumsy.

If he could be brought in, id put him in for purse. every ball he passes goes either out of play or to the opposition and will end up making us concede goals from bad passes. im not sure how quick gerrard is but having 2 centre backs currently that are quite slow cant be good. Hinds should have been released at the end of last season!!

Gonna have to disagree supersibon, I like everyone hated purse when he came, but now he's beginning to shine, I know his passing can be a little wayward but when there's crosses flyin into the box he's first there with the head to clear.

purse is still useless, how many times does he give the ball away??? its unbelieveable, against colchester he did it so many times in awful positions. their goal and their shot that hit the post both came from him giving it away under no pressure.

Ok Cardiff have had some real quality at centre half in the last ten years and sold the lot on. Gabbidon (West Ham), Collins (now at Villa), Loovens (Celtic) and probably best of all Johnson (Brum). Gerrard isn't in that league, a big strong stopper yes. Would be a good addition to squad and if we have to sell then let Mr I manage his team as he sees fit (just let's not flog off the family silver in the ludicrous way we sold Grant, that wasn't Mr I being allowed to manage his team!). I have been and still am critical of Purse. I don't think he's Championship quality, has many faults but courage and commitment are not among them, and you can't argue with results (4 played, 3 wins, 2 clean sheets).
