Another Former Owl United Bound?

Our nice neighbours over at Bramall Lane have made a bit of a habit of taking our rejects, and now another could be on the cards if Blades boss Gary Speed gets his man.

Speed, who took control at the Lane following the departure of Kevin Blackwell last week, has been linked with a swoop for Coventry City's former Owls skipper Richard Wood.

Wood, who came through the youth ranks at Hillsborough, made the switch to become a Sky Blue last season but has been used on the bench in Coventry's opening games of the season.

The Sky Blues have won two and drawn one of their opening three games in the Championship and Wood could well be allowed to leave if a good bid comes in for his services.

And Speed is thought to be keen to bolster the Blades defence before the close of the transfer window next Tuesday, with Wood thought to be on his list.

Any move by Wood to the 'dark side' would follow in the footsteps of other former Owls to make the switch.

Derek Geary, Leigh Bromby and Alan Quinn have all recently gone from hero to zero as far as Wednesdayites were concerned, and Wood would follow in the same vein - if not get a worse reception by Owls fans thanks to his captaincy and desire to leave S6.

Always thought he was overrated and now his career has stalled at Coventry. At least he will get a game at the Blunts because their defence is dire!
