Humphreys Eager For Owls Outing

Former Wednesday striker Ritchie Humphreys is eager to play for Hartlepool United against the Owls tomorrow - and try to erase some of the memories of the 2005 League One play-off final between the two sides.

Humphreys, who came through the Owls youth ranks before moving on to Victoria Park, was part of the United side that crashed to a 4-2 defeat against the Owls in Cardiff over five years ago.

And although a pre-season knee injury ruled him out of starting Hartlepool's opening games of the new season, Humphreys is desperate to play tomorrow.

'If I'm on the bench, I'd love to get on against my former club,' he told the Hartlepool Mail.

'For myself, Sweens (Tony Sweeney) and Boydy (Adam Boyd), the memories are there as they are for the whole town.

'We know we were so close and now we're trying to rebuild to get back in the position we were in 2005.'

The former Owls youngster, who shot to fame at S6 when he helped guide Wednesday to the top of the Premier League for a short time, is expected to start tomorrow's clash on the substitutes bench.

But he'll certainly be fired up to get one over on his former team if given the chance by caretaker boss Mick Wadsworth.
