Carlisle's Simek Aims To Dent Owls

Former Wednesday defender Frank Simek will return to Hillsborough this weekend - looking to get one over his former club with new side Carlisle United.

The American right-back was allowed to leave Wednesday at the end of last season after Owls boss Alan Irvine decided against offering him a new contract.

But he wasted no time in finding a new club, with Wednesday's League One rivals Carlisle snapping him up on a free transfer over the summer.

And Simek has been a big hit with the United fans since making the switch, having helped the Cumbrians to second-place in the league table - making Saturday's clash an early season top-of-the-table affair.

He's also eased Carlisle fans' frustrations as losing left-back Ian Harte to Championship side Reading over the summer thanks to his top-drawer showings for United.

But the familiar Hillsborough cries of 'USA, USA' will be few and very far between come 3pm on Saturday.

Simek will no doubt get a warm reception by Wednesdayites before kick-off, but that's as far as it goes as Wednesday look to overcome their visitors to retain their spot at the top.

i'd still take him over buxton and Otsemobor, wasnt given much game time after his injury to prove his worth. possibly one of the few mistakes father ted has made since arriving. hope he gets a good reception, a very popular player in the dezzy p household.

Frankie was great and he gave 100% as an Owl. Was a crying shame about his injury, which really seemed to make him a bit more cautious of a player. I think you're right DEZZYP, some more chances on the pitch could have helped with that. I would like to see him go far and wish him nothing but the best... except for a win this weekend or having Carlisle finish the season above us in the top two slots.

I'd love to have him here still too but I don't think he's the player he was, still subject to injuries although I hope he doesn't get any more big setbacks. Buxton has done okay this season so far though.

Living and working in Cumbria, have heard nothing but rave reviews from local papers and colleagues about Frankie. Will be going to the bookies and backing him to score against us as it always seems to happen. Shame we didn't keep hold of him as personal favourite of mine. Wish him nothing but the best except for Sat and Feb 26th obviously. UTO.

was a quality player until his injury, never looked as good since
