Abbott - Owls Are Leeds' Twin Brother

Headline grabbed your attention? Thought so...Carlisle may already be up against the Hillsborough crowd this weekend, but boss Gary Abbott has just made it worse.

Abbott has referred to Wednesday as 'like Leeds United's twin brother in a way' in an interview with the Times & Star in the build-up to Saturday's League One clash.

It's certainly a line that will wind-up a large section of Wednesdayites - although it was soley inteded as a comparison in the size of the club's competing in England's third tier.

United enjoyed some good battles with the Elland Road club during their stint in League One and the Cumbrians are eagerly anticipating their top-of-the-table trip to S6 this weekend.

Speaking to the Times & Star, Abbott said: 'They are a nice club, have good people working for them, a good playing staff and terrific fan base, but it's like Leeds United's twin brother in a way.'

'We've dealt with them, we know what upsets that type of club and we will be trying to do that this weekend.

'We will give them the greatest amount of respect, but we are going there to get a really good result.'

Carlisle have never won at Hillsborough but Abbott will be hoping to guide his men into the history books on Saturday - and take the Owls' spot at the top of the table in the process.

A bit like Leeds financial twin brother of a few years ago staggering from one financial crisis to the next before the inevitable adminstration and -10 points to confirm another stint in Div 1

yes he knows how to deal with clubs like that, lazer pens in the eyes and their fans assaulting your players

As a Leeds United fan, born and bred in Hillsborough, I find that statement quite amusing. I'm sure it will go down well with Owl's fans ;-)
