Beevers Set For Six Weeks On Sidelines

Wednesday defender Mark Beevers is set for a spell of at least six weeks on the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury in the JP Trophy clash against Chesterfield in midweek.

Beevers wasn't included in the Owls' squad for the 1-0 win over Leyton Orient today, with Lewis Buxton deputising in central defence, and Owls boss Alan Irvine has confirmed that he'll miss at least six weeks of the campaign through injury.

He suffered the injury in the penalty-shoot win against the Spireites in midweek, with Irvine hauling the defender off in the closing stages of the match.

And scans have revealed that the set-back is worse than first feared, with the injury happening at the top of the ankle and making it a longer period on the treatment table for Beevers.

Irvine has said that he could look to the loan market to help bolster his options at the back, although the performance of Buxton today will give him plenty of confidence of using the same centre-back pairing at Yeovil next weekend.

Disapointing but Buxton can fill in there, I think he's a decent centre back, just a rubbish right back.

Ditto S12, Buxton should fit in well at centre-back, especially in this league, much more suited to that role.

yeah he is a better centre back but how many times does he give away silly balls he's already done it againest southampton

we really should be doing better than this, at times it was like watching 10 year olds playing.

buxton did ok today but i wouldnt mind a bit of cover via the loan market

What happened to Mawene who we were supposed to be after?

i was saying only the other day i wouldnt mind 'resting' beevers and putting buxton in the middle. a good defender who was a centre back in his younger days, and is only a make shift right back. plus i want to see Otsemobor at right back getting forward.
