Irvine To Delve Into Loan Market

Wednesday boss Alan Irvine is set to delve into the loan market as he aims to plug the gap left by the injured Mark Beevers.

Beevers is set to spend between six-eight weeks on the treatment table with an ankle injury suffered in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy clash against Chesterfield last week.

And Irvine has since confirmed that he'll be looking to the loan market to bolster his defence.

Lewis Buxton filled in for Beevers and put in a man-of-the-match performance in the 1-0 victory against Leyton Orient at Hillsborough on Saturday, and also scored the winner.

But with Beevers' injury and the timely takeover boost nearing a conclusion, Irvine won't take a risk and is set to look for a short-term replacement in defence.

Wednesday are current under a transfer embargo but that will be lifted as soon as the Owls settle their 600,000 bill with HMRC, which is expected as soon as the investment group put an initial 2m downpayment on the table.

im happy to put buxton in the middle or give hinds some game time. i'd much rather get a midfielder who can link the midfield to the forwards rather than the huge space we constantly seem to have between the two.
DEZZYP
Agree Dezzyp we need more creativity for the strikers, hopefully Johnson will be back for a start following the Yeovil game, we have a run of 8 games coming up against sides who will be in and around the top ten, we need to start creating more chances as not all sides will miss as many as Leyton Orient did on sat
Aston_Owl
Creating chances is our biggest issue. I'd like to see big Al recruit a tought, ball winning midfielder.
bluedog
But then i think coke and miller are midfielders who get forward, especially miller who has a decent goalscoring records from midfield. but it cant work if we are defending then just punt a long ball forward and the opposition get it back, our build up play in non-existant. i hate to say it but i actually think father ted is playing it far too safe and the tactics being used are holding us back.
DEZZYP
Brian Stock at Doncaster would be a good acquisition if he could keep fit, not a bad age 28 and Doncaster are looking to off load him DEZZYP.

To be honest, if we can startplaying through the middle of the park rather than hoof it forward im quite happy with the squad. id like to see jones on the left, looks like he can whip a good ball in. jj on the right and miller and coke in the middle. i cant see there being any better in league 1. i also think widening the pitch hasnt paid off, could do with making the pitch a bit smaller. but i honestly think poor tactics are holding us back.
DEZZYP
Anyone heard any rumours on who we're getting?
wrighty-swfc
couldnt agree more DEZZYP with that choice of midfield.
samh
No injury prone players - pleease
tarnyowl
i am happy with buxton i think its purse that needs replacing and dont believe hinds is up to the job (he will just punt it as well) i agree with the midfield selection dezzyp. think with the defence punting it up means the midfield dont get a chance to play the ball through on the ground. anyone no when jj is back fully fit?
Wednesdayforlife
I don't think we can alter the size of the pitch until next season ?
ecco owl
I wish people would lay off Purse a bit. Lets be honest both Beevers and Spurr have been poor and lack positional awareness, especially Spurr, caught out more than once on Sat. A defence which has only conceeded 7 in 11 in the league can't be that bad. Agree with other comments, need to get it down more and link midfield and strikers. Tudders in Midfield for me is the key.
Bexy1977
I agree Bexy take Purse out of the defence and were facked, Beevers, Spurr and Buxton have all been under par this season.
ecco owl
To be honest our back four is poor and often costs us games. Also in our Midfield O Conner and Potter are the week links. You need Coke,Miller,Tudgay, and JJ to command the middle. Then we need a back four like in previous years Walker,Pearson,Shirtliff,Bullen,Coulighn, and the list goes on with people who do not switch off for 90 mins.

I've heard a rumour Sam Sodje is the man we're bringing in on loan once the embargo is sorted. Not sure if there's anything in that but there ya go...
Carbone's Padawan
whats so bad about conceding 7 goals in 11 league games? take the poor plymouth game out of it and thats only 4 in 10. Is that not a fantastic record? is that not championship winning stats? do people actually think any team can not give chances away in 90 minutes? weaver hasnt had a great deal to do in most games, i dont understand the gripes about our defence to be honest. The only issue i have with them is the long balls constantly pumped forward, which doesnt get held up from the forwards, making the midfield look poor. But if we have an average of conceding 7 goals every 11 games for the rest of the season, we will be right up there. Its the other end and tactics that need to change.
DEZZYP
I agree with you Dezzy P but almost every game we switch off for a second and it costs us.Purse needs to learn how to Jockey the man,and when man to man dont crash into him from behind.I think we will be there come end of season but we have to stop silly mistakes and these tend to come from the back four.
garrymo
Sam Sodje is a good call, can jump well, still got a bit of pace and a threat from corners. But with alan revealing this it looks like he has someone in mind anyway.
carlton owl
I don't think that Purse can be defended. In all honesty, I think he must also be a nightmare to play with because he is just a ballwatcher. He looks quite good when the ball is coming straight at him and he can head and tackle, but he has no awareness at all, doesn't pick up runners and is lost if the flight of the ball goes over him. He's been doing this ever since he joined, apart from the odd game, I really don't think he'll change. It's true we haven't conceded a huge amount of goals but it is just as clear that we have been really lucky about that as much as anything else. Better quality teams would have more against by us now, just like last season. In my mind, Purse is a decent sub at best but I doubt if our problems will go away while we rely on him as our defensive rock.
baldowl
I'm more than happy to stick with purse for this season, i agree about him struggling with better opposition. Hopefully, without gettinh ahead of myself, promotion this season and our potential investment, we can get a few new bodies in next summer. Could do with a new centre back pairing in my opinion. iv never got the beevers hype. slow, clumbsy, a terrible ball watcher, and for a big strapping lad he gets pushed around and beat in the air far too often. Still, it should be good enough for league one success.
DEZZYP
i liked m'voto at oldham when there came here irvine must have someone in mind maybe a everton reserve ?
retfordowl1867
we had one of the best defences in the championship with Spurr, Beavers,Wood,Buxton or Simeck then Purse arrived and ? i rest my case
tommy craig
Its a shame wood saw the pound signs, and the less said about simek leaving the better, i hear nothing but good things about his performances at carlisle. I think it was obvious to anybody with half a brain he needed a run of games after his injuries, like any player, to find his level again. i got a dvd a few years ago, wednesdays greatest 250 goals, basically, its all the goals between 92 and 97, it almost brought a tear to the eye.
DEZZYP
Shame about Wood leaving for the signs, but the greedy f****r will need a bigger trophy cabnit now at Coventry and also a bigger bench to keep warm. What we need is another Walker/Emmerson or another Pearson/Shirtliff and Mr Nillson on the left. Now budge that back four lol.
