JJ Gets Through Reserve Outing

JJ Gets Through Reserve Outing

Wednesday reserves suffered a 5-0 thumping against their Nottingham Forest counterparts, but the main positive was an 85-minute run-out for Jermaine Johnson.

The Jamaican winger came through the clash unscathed and will be in contention for a part in Wednesday's trip to Yeovil Town in npower League One this Saturday.

Johnson has yet to feature in a match for the Owls this season after suffering an injury during the close season.

He featured on the bench in Wednesday's 1-0 win over Leyton Orient at the weekend but was never introduced by Owls boss Alan Irvine.

That could all change this weekend though after JJ passed the reserve team test, even though the Owls team failed against an experience Forest line-up at Stocksbridge.

Dele Adebola hit a first-half hat-trick, while David McGoldrick also netted as Forest led 4-0 at half-time.

The Owls improved on the resumption but Gareth McCleary added a fifth to complete the goalscoring.

There has clearly been a lack of pace in the front line and Johnson will be a welcome addition. With not scoring in several matches I have been surprised by the management not giving a youngster a chance. However reading the published Boardroom minutes and Irvine saying he did not want loan players and wanted to build a championship challenging team for the league one campaign has not filled me with confidence. The current team would be a good bet for relegation and most teams in lower leagues who are succesful rely heavily on loan players. Not sure how others feel about this.

I think one of the main reasons we went down was because we had too many loan players. I agree in principle of having a settled team with only the odd one or two season long loan players. Obviously if we are gonna buy players then they need to be good. But the same can be said about loan players. On the other hand penguin Jones was only here for 3 months, but played a major part in getting us out of this league last time. Its a fine line.

I'd rather tie players down to a contract than loan, it makes much more sense but i dont think it really matters aslong as they are good enough. i know we had to shop in the bargain basement last summer but sedgewick and teale have been massively disappointing, i hope the pair of them are only on one year deals. i dont mind getting a player or two on loan but it gets a bit silly when its 6 or 7, no long term plan or stability with that.

Totally agree with Dezzy. We've had some great loan players in the past, especially under Sturrock, but some have been pants, and some of the permanent signings have been poor too. It depends on the player. Sedgewick and Teale are seriously below par but hopefully some incoming dough will see these two on their way, or at least on the bench.

Sedgwick and Teale will not be on the way out anytime soon - Irvine's a big believer in them and they're only recent acquisitions. On a side note, is there any progression with our cash injection yet?

Johnson will get straight back in the team no problem-he is way ahead of sedgewick and teale as a threat towards the opposition. Welcome back jermaine

Iv been amazed how many times teale fails to beat the first man when crossing in the box, he had a lively start then diasppeared where as sedgwick hasnt got going at all. id rather 2 from jones, tudgay or jj on the wings. Let the other get spend some time on the bench to give them a little kick up the backside.
