Owls Eye Swoop For Sam Sodje

Wednesday boss Alan Irvine is set to complete the signing of former Reading defender Sam Sodje as soon as the transfer embargo slapped on the Owls is lifted.

Sodje, who has been playing in Greece following a stint with Leeds United last season, has been training with Wednesday this week and is all-set to become an Owl.

The Owls can't complete the deal until the current transfer embargo on the club is lifted, but it's expected to be sooner rather than later with an investment consortium pledging to put an imminent 2m into the club to pay off an unpaid tax bill of 600,000.

Irvine has been keen to bolster his defensive options with Mark Beevers sidelined for around two months with an ankle injury.

Captain Darren Purse is also just one yellow card away from receiving a suspension - leaving options at the back thin.

Sodje, 31, has experience at League One level having helped Leeds United to promotion last season.

He left Charlton Athletic at the end of last season and had a one-month spell in Greek football before returning for a trial with Championship side Portsmouth.

Excellent player, really enjoyed watching im play down at The Valley. Hes strong, good in the air in both boxes and can tackle hard. Wish him luck and hope he plays as well for Charlton as he does for you. Good luck Sodj

not really sure about this, cant be that good if he's playing for some obscure greek club. Still only 31 which surprises me, seems to have been around for years. I suppose a bit of extra competition cant hurt.

It's more than a little concerning that the money has still to be received!

Thats true, i thought they had handed it over last week. so technically we are still waiting on promised investment? nothing new i suppose.
DEZZYP
decent signing at this level but the investment is dragging out again is this really going to happen ?

Interesting story this. I know people are worried about the length of time the investment money is taking - I have my concerns too but would Irvine really waste Sodje's time by inviting him to train with the club when there was no immediate prospect of the transfer embargo being lifted soon? Keep the faith. A deal may be imminent!

Good signing if it comes off- will keep purse, buxton on their toes.

Why cant Richard Hinds get a game? Never, ever, let us down Wednesdayite through and through
fed_up_owl
in the star newspaper the money is supposed to be in a bank in london
Owlet
He hasn't trained for 5 weeks so isn't fit but if he gets fit, something his brother unfortunately struggled to do, he'd be a good acquisition to the squad.

now this lad can tackle he will make a few eyes water

Richard Hinds is bloody awful I am afraid. I am not sure Sodje is the answer but least its someone who played at this level the last 2 seasons.
