Turner: Investment Deal 'Very Close'

Chris Turner has confirmed to the Sheffield Star that he's part of a consortium that is 'very close' to completing a takeover of the Owls.

It's the first time the former Owls player and manager, who was spotted at Hillsborough during the Owls' 1-0 victory over Leyton Orient, has confirmed his position as part of the group interesting in a takeover of the club.

In an interview with the Star, Turner insists that a deal is 'very close' to completion and that an initial downpayment of £2 million could still be used to pay off an unpaid tax bill of £600,000 and lift the transfer embargo on the club before the end of the week.

It would mean Owls boss Alan Irvine would be able to try and bolster his squad ahead of Saturday's trip to Yeovil in npower League One.

Former Leeds United, Charlton and Reading defender Sam Sodje, who has been training with Wednesday this week, is set to join the Owls as soon as the transfer embargo is lifted.

Owls chairman Howard Wilkinson announced last week that an unnamed party had agreed to pay £2m upfront to show their dedication to a full takeover of the club.

The cash has yet to come through but, although no comment has been made by the club, Vital understands that it's hoped the money will be in place to pay off the £600,000 tax bill in a matter of days.

Chris Turner was a great Wednesday keeper. He had a good managerial record at Hartlepool and as a result of that he landede the managers job at Hillsborough. He stated when he left that the job was too big for him, something that not too many mangers in football are willing to admit. He is now back fronting an investment bid. Despite the abuse he may have been subjected to, he is now back fronting an investment consortium. If that is not evidence that he has the club at his heart I don't know hwat is? If all goes well, he derves that thanks and support of all true Wednesday fans!

If I had a pound everytime I heard investment was close I could have bought the bloody club myself by now. Someone should tell that singapore business man trying to buy liverpool for 320 million he could buy Wednesday instead for a fraction of that, much better value me thinks!!

Sgt wilko has issued a statement on the club website, he seems happy enough.

Im sure if Chris Turner had his way he would get ther deal sorted. He knows that boardroom members better than anyone and Im sure he is aware that they are mudering out club slowly from the inside. He's a Wednesday man and Im sure he will do his best to sort us out. Good luck Chris

I hope Turner comes back on board anyway for the simple reason he looks like a fat version of Stringfellow Hawk from Airwolf.
