Southport Eager For Owls Clash

It may only be the first round proper of the FA Cup, but Wednesday players, and fans, can expect a 'cup final' feel to their clash at Blue Square Premier Southport.

Alan Irvine takes his men to the seaside on Sunday, November 7, live on ITV (kick-off 12 noon) very much the favourites to progress to the second round of the prestigious competition.

But, despite the huge differences in the size and history of both clubs, the clash will be no walk in the park for Wednesday.

For the Sandgrounders it's set to be their biggest game of the season and the revenue from gate receipts and television money will help with the running of the club.

And the Owls can expect to be hit by a wave of enthusiasm and determination as Southport look to make a big impression in front of the cameras.

Southport defender Kevin Lee told the Liverpool Daily Post: 'Sheffield Wednesday was the draw I wanted.

'We were all watching the draw live on Sunday and all the players started phoning each other up as soon as it came out.

'It's great news for the club are we are just made up to be on the telly.'

The world-famous competition has been full of shock results in recent seasons.

Wednesday won't want to mirror Leeds United's shock exit against another Blue Square Premier side in Histon in 2008.
