Owls Legend Guides Malmo To Title

Wednesday legend Roland Nilsson guided Malmo FF to their first Swedish League title for the first time since 2006 today - Nilsson's first Swedish championship.

The former Owls right-back has been manager at the club since 2008 and his side won the title today, Sunday, after defeating Mjallby 2-0 at Malmo Stadium.

It's the club's 16th league title and they claimed it after coming into the final round of matches level on points with Helsingborg, who could only manage a 0-0 stalemate in their final match of the season.

Nilsson, who was part of the Wednesday side that defeated Manchester United in the final of the 1991 League Cup at Wembley and is regarded as one of the best players to ever play for the club, had mid-table finishes in his first two years with Malmo.

But he's built a winning side this season and will be celebrating his success in style tonight.

Congratulations, Roland!

Dezzy, thats not a bad shout at all mate! We need someone who appreciates the stature of the club from being involved, not just someone who read about how good we used to be! Anyone from that 91-93 team would do nicely!
Owls That!

if im being serious, i never want anybody managing our club who has such a legendary status from our better years, if it goes pear shaped it will tarnish their reputation.

he had to play at the back, too many injuries with centre backs if i remember correctly. Shame we never really got to see a hirst/warhurst partnership, could have been pretty damn good. worst thing he ever did was leave us for blackburn.

we would never have seen a hirst/warhurst partnership, major personal differences in the end and one of them had to leave which was always going to be Warhurst. with the benefit of hindsight maybe we should have kept warhurst cos Hirsty was all but finished by then. shame because they could have torn the league to pieces

cole and sheringham never spoke at all, they didnt do too badly did they? i dont think warhurst would have maintained that kind of form for the rest of his career, bit of a flash in the pan looking back, a bloody good one though.
