Rochdale Boss Hill Slams Owls

Rochdale Boss Hill Slams Owls

Rochdale boss Keith Hill took a swipe at Wednesday and the football authorities following his side's 2-0 defeat at Hillsborough on Saturday.

Goals from Giles Coke and Clinton Morrison gave Alan Irvine's men the three points in npower League One at the weekend.

But Hill blasted Wednesday for being able to field a side that had a 'gulf in quality' compared to his own players, despite being in the High Court this week over an unpaid tax bill.

He told the Manchester Evening News: 'I'm disappointed with the result but proud of the lads and of what we tried to achieve.

'The gulf in difference between their squad and ours was obvious, yet as a football club we are more financially solvent than the opposition.

'It's wrong that Sheffield Wednesday are able to field the type of player they have, while our housekeeping is good and we`re trying to do things the right way.'

Owls boss Alan Irvine made big changes to his squad following relegation from the Championship over the summer, bringing in players such as Morrison, Gary Teale and Paul Heffernan.

It's the first time a manager has criticised the Owls in the media following their financial difficulties.

Would i be right in understanding that a player will only go to a club he wishes to play for? If we can attract a certain type of player so what. Obviously Rochdale does not appeal to that type of player! Sour grapes me thinks!!!!

Well we can obviously afford to pay their wages or they wouldn't be here, and we have been making small profits in recent years. He needs to get the facts right!

By his logic we shouldn't even be in this division - it should have been crystal place that rochdale were facing - f*** back off over t peninnes you whingeing b**tard - if we are unfairly operating we'll get a big 10 point deduction on wednesday - then if rochdale are so brilliant they can attract all our players to their club.....

Sour grapes from a manager I used to respect. Wednesday are in huge trouble and face the possibility of oblivion and yet he comes out with this rubbish. And what was the excuse for the loss to FC United in the FA Cup if it's all down to finances and nothing to do with him being a rubbish manager who'll be back off to League 2 at the end of the season with a bit of luck.

To be honest, although because he is talking about our club I am duty bound to dissagree with him. I have said the same thing about Portsmouth and Cardiff all year. They have massive debts, have been at the eleventh hour many times but still can pay daft wages to attract great players even though they are in the s**t and cannot pay their creditors. I can see his point. But probably he hasnt said it the right way, or was misquoted. And by the way. This brilliant squad he is talking about only scraped a win. Rochdale had more than enough chances to level it.

Perhaps this guy also believes that Rochdale should have Rooney & Ronaldo in their side too, because Rochdale are a better run club than debt-ridden Man Utd & Real Madrid etc. Tool!

Sour Grapes Hill (But i can understand as you were given a spanking and a lesson in football from the mighty Wednesday). Our Money troubles have no inpact on who chooses to play for us and who we sign. And our debt is all blown out of propotion compared to the debt of other clubs in all divisions. We are just unfortunate that ours has happend over years and not overnight. Hope that is Crystal enough for you Mr Hill

C'mon, we said exactly the same about Palace last year. It is not fair but clearly playing by the rules got us sweet FA so why not join in the rat race when we face administration any way?
