Irvine Praises Owls In Dons Romp

Wednesday boss Alan Irvine was full of praise for his team following their 4-1 npower League One victory over MK Dons, a side previously unbeaten in the league on home soil.

The Owls boss has come in for some criticism from Wednesdayites so far this season, but there could be nothing but praise for Irvine and his troops at Stadium:mk today as they smashed four by the Dons.

Neil Mellor continued his fine goalscoring form with a hat-trick, while a Luke Chadwick own goal completed the Owls' tally after they came from a goal down to triumph.

And, after what's been an extremely tough week for Wednesdayites off the pitch, Irvine was delighted at the way his side demolished Karl Robinson's men to shoot up to fifth in the table.

'I am absolutely delighted with that performance and now we have to build on this game and the three wins that came before it,' he told the official Owls website.

'Neil Mellor did ever so well as he has done for us since we brought him to the club in the summer. But he will be the first to say that this was an excellent team performance.

'The players worked hard all over the field in what is a difficult place to come to. Everybody knows that MK Dons were unbeaten at home going into this game with six wins and two draws.

'So to win and score four goals is fantastic but as I say, we have to keep building.'

Irvine will now look towards three points against Walsall at Hillsborough on Tuesday night (kick-off 7.45pm).
