England/Hillsborough Awaits WC Verdict
Wednesday could be set for more good news today if England, and Hillsborough as a candidate ground, wins the right to host the 2018 World Cup today.
The 22 members of FIFA's executive committee will today cast their vote as to who they think should host the world's greatest football event in 2018 and 2022.
England are battling it out with bids from Holland-Belgium, Russia and Spain-Portugal for the prestigious event in eight years' time.
And if England get the nod, Hillsborough could be staging such world giants as Brazil, Spain and Italy after Sheffield was selected as a candidate city for the tournament.
Wednesday beat off competition from Steel City rivals Sheffield United and their Bramall Lane stadium to be the host stadium for Sheffield.
FIFA's decision will be made public at 3pm GMT today.
England have taken a large party over to Zurich, Switzerland, where the voting is taking place, with Prime Minister David Cameron, Prince William, and David Beckham amongst the names.
As part of the bid to host World Cup matches, Hillsborough will be upgraded.
