England/Hillsborough Awaits WC Verdict

Wednesday could be set for more good news today if England, and Hillsborough as a candidate ground, wins the right to host the 2018 World Cup today.

The 22 members of FIFA's executive committee will today cast their vote as to who they think should host the world's greatest football event in 2018 and 2022.

England are battling it out with bids from Holland-Belgium, Russia and Spain-Portugal for the prestigious event in eight years' time.

And if England get the nod, Hillsborough could be staging such world giants as Brazil, Spain and Italy after Sheffield was selected as a candidate city for the tournament.

Wednesday beat off competition from Steel City rivals Sheffield United and their Bramall Lane stadium to be the host stadium for Sheffield.

FIFA's decision will be made public at 3pm GMT today.

England have taken a large party over to Zurich, Switzerland, where the voting is taking place, with Prime Minister David Cameron, Prince William, and David Beckham amongst the names.

As part of the bid to host World Cup matches, Hillsborough will be upgraded.

Iv just seen the plans for the stadium developments should we get it, id love this to happen. Just hope the combination of the bbc and the brummies last night dont ruin it for us. Best stadium, best fans, best everything....come on fifa, dont be daft and give us our game back.

I'm wishing England all the best in this one! She deserves to host her game and it will give Wednesday, and Sheffield as a whole, a huge boost. PLEASE FIFA, give our club a further boost and me an excuse to come back to England/Sheffield/Hillsborough that my wife can't refuse! WTID UTO

what a load of old cobblers, if the 2018 result wasn't a fix then the 2022 result was. how on earth can qatar win a world cup? all the stadiums would be in a 50 mile radius, it would be like Birmingham hosting a world cup. Fifa is bent

Iwonder why Putin did not go for the w/c draw dont it seem that he already knew the result I hope they F**k it up and that teams cant get to the grounds due to their crap transport system

utter disgrace. putin said he would fly to zurich if they won....glory supporter. everything about our game is the best in the world(except standard of play), apparentley we only got 4 votes, complete corruption and fix. oh well, i like our stadium just the way it is.

all i know is that mandaric has said that they will invest in all aspects of the club. the stadium will need upgrading whatever happens before 2018
