'If It's Football, It's Vital'

England/Hillsborough Awaits WC Verdict

Wednesday could be set for more good news today if England, and Hillsborough as a candidate ground, wins the right to host the 2018 World Cup today.

The 22 members of FIFA's executive committee will today cast their vote as to who they think should host the world's greatest football event in 2018 and 2022.

England are battling it out with bids from Holland-Belgium, Russia and Spain-Portugal for the prestigious event in eight years' time.

And if England get the nod, Hillsborough could be staging such world giants as Brazil, Spain and Italy after Sheffield was selected as a candidate city for the tournament.

Wednesday beat off competition from Steel City rivals Sheffield United and their Bramall Lane stadium to be the host stadium for Sheffield.

FIFA's decision will be made public at 3pm GMT today.

England have taken a large party over to Zurich, Switzerland, where the voting is taking place, with Prime Minister David Cameron, Prince William, and David Beckham amongst the names.

As part of the bid to host World Cup matches, Hillsborough will be upgraded.

I'm wishing England all the best in this one! She deserves to host her game and it will give Wednesday, and Sheffield as a whole, a huge boost. PLEASE FIFA, give our club a further boost and me an excuse to come back to England/Sheffield/Hillsborough that my wife can't refuse! WTID UTO

what a load of old cobblers, if the 2018 result wasn't a fix then the 2022 result was. how on earth can qatar win a world cup? all the stadiums would be in a 50 mile radius, it would be like Birmingham hosting a world cup. Fifa is bent

doubt the stadium well get done now, it would have been government funded due to the world cup. we already an an empty 20,000 seats, dont think an extra 5,000 will be helpfull at all. we'll probably just give it an extra lick of paint now.

Spot on Dezzy. To be honest, we have had years of having a great stadium and an under performing team. I am looking forward to seeing the team actually look like getting back to where we should be. Stadium may need upgrading, but there's lots worse than Hillsborough

i love our stadium, the only change i would make is to get those seats out of the corner and have 4 proper stands again. i enjoy the fact we have a proper traditional stadium, just be nice to start filling it properly again.

i agree about having a traditional stadium and i dont want a new 'round no atmosphere all look the same' stadium but i do believe it needs redevelopment.

arrrrrrrrr what a shame you will have to find another bunch of muppets to pay for you falling down flood plane of stadium improvements. typical wendies expecting yet another back hander. Herd this is the only reason why the coop wrote of the debt as it was agreed they would see a big amount of money generated from the world cup....rumour now has it that the coop are not calling it back and the debt is going to be re managed.....ho ho ho merry xmas. the only reason you got the shout above us was the park opposite to be used as an holding area...and of cause fraudster dave richards. out of the 2 grounds the lane scored more points in all aspects apart from the fans holding areas......take a look on line its all there for public viewing. fact is the lane is the better and most modern ground in the whole of yourshire!!! get in there division 3 porkers!! xxxxxx

MM will soon do one, same as he always does. i'll give irvine 10 games before he's replaced by blackwell.....a good friend of MM....W**K HOTEL???...the best hotel in the city by far and is making bags of money may i add!!

stop going on about west ham, a premiership season consists of 38 games not the last 10, you werent good enough over the whole season so get over it! from what i understand you dont even own the hotel anymore so your not making any money from it. Its funny you think MM will soon do one, because for him to sell (and im sure everyone knows he will sell in the next few years) we will have to be in a better situation than we are in now, like leicester, so we arent bothered about that because it means we will be doing well and on the up, where as you will be right in the **** by then!
