Owls Striker Set For Training Return

Wednesday could be boosted with the return of top-scorer Neil Mellor to training today, just over two weeks after sustaining an ankle injury.

The on-loan striker was carried off the pitch on a stretcher when the Owls fell to a 3-1 defeat at Carlisle United as they crashed out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy at the norther area semi-final stage.

It was feared the former Liverpool youngster, and Owls top-scorer, could be out for some time.

But scans revealed the injury wasn't as bad as first feared, and Mellor has given himself a fighting chance of being available for selection for the Owls trip to Exeter in npower League One on Saturday.

The hitman was expected to return to training with the rest of his team-mates today after making a good recovery from the ankle set-back.

A starting role at Exter may come too soon, but the news of his return will be a big boost for Owls boss Alan Irvine going into the hectic festive fixture period.

Good news would proberly leave him on bench this weekend and stick with jj and morrison looked awesome last week just hope the game goes ahead with the incoming snow forecast

good that he's back so soon but it would probably be a bit unfair to change the team after winning 6-2. though i would rather have him back upfront and jj back on the wing.

Good sign we can score 6 without our top scorer playing isn't it, can't change a winning team so if fit he can go on the bench.
