Owls Linked With Djimi Traore Swoop

Wednesday have been linked with a move for former Liverpool and Portsmouth defender Djmi Traore in the media as Alan Irvine seeks to bolster his squad in January.

The Daily Mail is reporting that the Owls are set to splash the cash in the January transfer window thanks to new chairman Milan Mandaric, with Traore one of four names linked with a move to Hillsborough.

Defender Traore, curently at French club Monaco, could return to England with a move to Wednesday alongside team-mate Serge Gapke, 23, Nice hitman Mamadou Bagayoko and Leeds United midfielder Amdy Faye.

The transfer targets are the first since Mandaric took over at Hillsborough.

And the new Owls chairman will be keen to throw his money behind a promotion push this season, especially after the 5-1 thrashing at Exter on Saturday, which highlighted weaknesses in Irvine's squad.

Expect more to follow in the coming weeks as the start of the January transfer window edges closer.

Mamadou Bagayoko - 31yr old striker with 1 goal last season in over 20 games... hope the money will be spent a little more wisely than that.

Monaco and Nice to Sheffield in January, sure they can't wait to swap their sun cream for some thermals and ply their trade in league 1!

jesus, how good is it just being linked with people again for players with a potential fee. traore would give us some much needed pace at the back, not the worst signing in the world.
