LA Galaxy Striker Linked With Owls

Wednesday have today been linked with an ambitious move for LA Galaxy's in-demand striker Edson Buddle in the January transfer window.

The 29-year-old American has been linked with numerous Barclays Premier League clubs including Stoke City, Birmingham City, Fulham and Wolves.

But, according to BBC Radio Sheffield reporter Seth Bennett, the Owls have made an ambitious swoop to secure the services of the in-form striker.

Buddle has been offered an extended trial with Birmingham but is thought to want to conclude a deal with an English club sooner rather than later.

And, with Wednesday now able to splash the cash following the takeover of Milan Mandaric, it's understood that Wednesday are keen to tie up a deal.

Buddle has made six international caps for the USA, scoring two goals, and has also played at other MLS clubs including Columbus Crew and New York Red Bulls.

With the transfer window nearing in January, and the ability to spend for Wednesday, the transfer rumours have been in over-drive recently, and are expected to continue in the next few weeks.

Good feeling eh? Even if we're probably not going to be signing 80% of the rumours!

He has scored a lot of goals in the MLS but I think he will be snapped up by a PL club even if its on a short term loan

What about a swoop for a certain rightside midfield team-mate.... I reacon the pull of Sheffield might tempt the Beckhams!!! lol It's great to have all these links, so lets hope santa brings some great signings in his sack, ho ho ho.. merry christmas...

He sounds promising it's great to be linked with players again. And decent ones at that. Hearing that Peterborough are having financial troubles as well as Plymouth, how about swooping for the Posh's George Boyd, Aaron McLean or Craig Mackail-Smith and Plymouth's Bradley Wright Phillips?

Those players didnt really do it at championship level last year. Think we should look to build on what we have

id love to get george boyd, cracking player. id much rather get a few good young prospects then has beens,, look to the future and build a new team. wouldnt be too keen on wright-philips though, had a decent start but has already looked poor in the championship, we need players who will be able to compete in that league also.

nice to be linked to some players but I don't want a guy who has been described as 'maddeningly lazy' in the past. that is not a trait that is easily trained out

would you be referring to george boyd as 'maddeningly lazy'? if so, iv seen him a quite a few times and he's not been too bad at all. think its adrian durham on talksport who's a peterborough fan and called him peterboroughs greatest player of all take him. im not part of this english mentality of 'getting in peoples faces' and 'giving 100 per cent', i like a touch of class in my team.

of course i do, but every team can allow for one player who is built for class not just a water carrier. i dont recall sir chris waddle being a box to box midfielder, but its fair to say he did pretty well(and hell no am i saying the lad boyd is in the same league as sir waddle, before anybody bites my head off). anyways, i think the striker position is the least of our worries.

What's the chances of a buy one get one on loan free? If Edson Buddle is is not at loggerheads with his teammate DB then what are the possibilities? David Beckham is looking for a loan move to England but has stated that the only Premier league club for him would be MU. Championship clubs are without exception not of our pedigree so if Buddle does come on board and DB has a rapport with him then the mind boggles. Beckham is portrayed in the media as a very altruistic character, who at this stage of his career may not be motivated by financial considerations alone BUT he might relish the challenge of helping one of the founding members of the football league that is steeped in tradition realise its potential. At 35 time is not on his side but if he were to become an Owl and galvanize the club we may need to come to an agreement with MU!. A bold, audatious approach may not be as pie in the sky as it first reads!

Lets not forget we were on the verge of signing Beckham from United before they sold Kanchelskis! Granted that was before he became the biggest sportsman in the world and Englands 2nd most capped footballer of all time! League One is surely on a par with MLS in terms of quality and if not more in terms of fitness? Dont ask dont get!
Owls That!

I'm sure Mandaric and Irvine will be having lots of conversations about potential targets and budgets etc in the coming days. Mandaric has got more contacts than an Acuvue factory so it will be interesting to see who we target.
