Both Hillsborough Festive Fixtures Off

Wednesday have today confirmed that both of their home matches over the festive period have been postponed following advice from Sheffield City Council.

The home clash against Yeovil Town on Tuesday, December 28, and New Year's Day clash against Peterborough United, both at Hillsborough, have been called off.

The postponements are due to burst and frozen pipes in the toilets and refreshment kiosks at the ground.

The postponements come on the back of Tranmere Rovers announcing their clash with Wednesday on Boxing Day is cancelled due to a frozen pitch at Prenton Park.

Wednesday stadium operations manager John Rutherford told the official SWFC website: 'This is a huge disappointment for everyone at the club because these holiday fixtures are always popular and well supported, but this situation is entirely beyond our control.

'These circumstances are unprecedented, we have people who have worked at the stadium for over 40 years who have never before seen conditions like this.

'The River Don alongside the stadium is freezing over and no one can recall this happening before.'

Wednesday's next fixture will now be the clash at Huddersfield Town on Monday, January 3, weather permitting.

I've always like O'Driscoll and thought he was a sensible chap, that he has now proved by turning down the blunts. He obviously knew he was better off staying at Donny than going to Utd and managing that complete shower, obviously didn't fancy league 1 next season as that's where they are heading. What's all this about having a winter break, we've got one now at Hillsborough so a few weeks off to recharge the old batteries should work wonders. Atl east we can laugh at Utd over the xmas break!!
