Posh Offer Owls Fixture Reversal

Peterborough United offered Wednesday the chance to play their postponed New Year's Day game at London Road, and reverse the fixtures between the clubs, it emerged today.

The Owls have been forced to postpone both of their festive fixtures at Hillsborough due to problems with pipes around the stadium, including the clash against Posh which would have kick-started 2011.

But a statement from Posh on their official website has confirmed that the club offered to switch the match to London Road to get the game played - a proposal which Wednesday turned down.

Understandable, perhaps, given that Alan Irvine and his men face a tough clash against promotion rivals Huddersfield Town at the Galpharm Stadium just two days later.

A fixture reversal would have meant Wednesday then welcomed Peterborough to Hillsborough on Saturday, February 1, instead.

But Wednesday will now be faced with no festive games until the clash with the Terriers, which is live on Sky, after the Boxing Day game at Tranmere Rovers was also postponed due to a frozen pitch.
