Irvine Homes In On New Signings

Owls boss Alan Irvine admits he's been using time off from competitive action to track new signings in the January transfer window.

Wednesday chairman Milan Mandaric is expected to splash the cash in January to aid the Owls in their bid for promotion straight back to the Championship this season.

And, with Wednesday without a game until Monday, January 3 at Huddersfield Town due to the postponement of three of their festive fixtures, Irvine has been using his time to shortlist players to bolster his squad.

Irvine told the Sheffield Star: 'I've been making a lot of phone calls, and had a lot of discussions with people to check up on players. We're not ready to push the button yet.'

Irvine has refused to confirm or deny a deal for LA Galaxy striker Edson Buddle, who has been linked with a move to Hillsborough recently.

But he did tell the Star that: 'he has scored a lot of goals for LA Galaxy. He's also played in the World Cup for America. He's obviously no mug.'

Buddle has been on trial with Barclays Premier League side Birmingham City as he looks for a move to Europe, but could also sign a new deal with Galaxy.
