Romario To Face Owls

Brazilian goalscoring legend and World Cup winner Romario is set to play against the Owls during their pre-season tour of the USA this July.

The 1994 World Cup winner has been selected alongside former Brazil team-mate Zinho and a host of other players selected for the United Soccer Leagues (USL) First Division All-Star game against Wednesday on 19 July in Cary, North Carolina.

The Owls are a big draw with the American crowd with more than double the average First Division gate expected at the match. Wednesday's strong links with John Harkes hold the club in high esteem.

USL Director of Pro League Operations, Steven Thompson, said: "With the opponent in the All-Star game being an established club side, we wanted to ensure that not only were the fan favorites represented, but also players who would make the team complete from a competitive standpoint, which is often not the case with All-Star games. "I think we struck a great balance in selecting stars from across the league and have built a team that will be very good coming together with brief preparation for the match."

The match is one of three the Owls will play in during their week-and-a-half long stay on the East coast of the United States. The team will face Wilmington on July 15 (7.30pm ET), USL All-Star Select on July 19 (8pm ET) and Rochester Raging Rhinos on July 22 (7.35pm ET).

The match against the USL All-Star Select side is being screened live on the Fox Soccer Channel at 8pm eastern time, so hopefully our 'sleek passing football' will win over the Americans!

it's is a good game for you but seeing as he is brazilian....someone please break his legs!
wallis
Great great striker, can't believe he's still playing and still scoring- legend.
markohaire
a little unfair from wallis, steal his zimmer maybe, now if he was the portuguese ronaldo broken legs would only be a start
robc
Lets hope he does his oh-so-funny baby cradling goal celebration.. not.
Auckland Owl
Wasn't that Leonardo? He's been on the BBC WC coverage since it started and they've made a point of rattling on about it whenever he's on!
spirtySWFC
still it must be difficult for leonardo to sit comfortably with somany tongues wedged firmly where the sun don't shine, honorable exception martin o'neil, can't help liking his barking mad demeanor and softly wishing , under my breath, for Mr Mclaren to feel the need to spend more time with his family, oh well...
robc
coughlan v romario only one winner there-coughlan
carlton owl
robc, I see it like this... a tabloid scandal, Mclaren out, O'Neill to the rescue. If only.
Auckland Owl
Was a god, remember having his name on my brazil shirt. legend!!
