Motherwell's Reynolds Arrives In S6

Wednesday completed a double signing yesterday, with Motherwell defender Mark Reynolds following Carlisle striker Gary Madine to Hillsborough.

Reynolds, 23, has been linked with the a move to the Owls throughout the January transfer window and Alan Irvine finally got his man yesterday for an undisclosed fee.

The Scot follows Michael Morrison and Reda Johnson as the third defender to put pen-to-paper on a deal with the Owls.

'Mark is very quick and has played a lot of games for someone of 23-years-old. He can play at left back or centre back and will add more quality to our squad,' Irvine told the official SWFC website.

'He has represented Scotland through to Under-21 level and comes with glowing references from everyone that I spoke to.'

Reynolds came through to Motherwell Academy and had racked up an impressive 192 appearances for the SPL club since breaking through into the first team.

He has previously been linked with a move to Scottish giants Rangers and had attracted the interest of a host of English clubs before Wednesday snapped him up.

Reynolds is expected to go straight into the Owls squad who will face Leyton Orient away on Saturday.

Really happy about this signing, was highly rated in the SPL. Wonder what his contract length is? As for saturday, it needs to be a straight swap with Reynolds & Purse in my opinion!!

It's been said a thousand times, but I'm so glad to be signing the players that we want, not just the has-beens and others who come for free. THANK YOU Milan!!! It will be good to get Reynolds into the fold and watch our new defense get in swing together. Up the Owls!

Quality signing, imagine he will go in at DL not in for Purse.

How is it all us so called "amateurs" can see that Purse is single handedly destroying our season yet our "professional" coaching staff cant!? Buxton RB, Johnson & Morrison CB and Reynolds LB for me! Spurr can go for me? As can Purse and Beavers! Purse and Beevers I guess would make adequate cover though I guess? A squad of this quality should not be 9th!
Owls That!

Purse has been a disaster since day one and summed up Brian Laws signings. Past it if he ever had it. I am a believer in building from the back. I thought Sturrock (an attacker i think) was starting to get it right and had a good nucleus - although they played a bit too negatively. Whereas Laws(a defender) got it completely wrong. A refelection of this was the impact Mcauley had on them when he was in charge. Sturrock left the far better team - and he only had turners squad to work with. I believe Laws biggest mistake was Purse - enough is enough. I am so glad that we are building from the back as it makes me feel that the people making the decisions know what they are talking about. I am also delighted with the defenders we have bought and have a great feeling about all 3 - even if one of them shares the same pastimes as John Stape. Not sure about the striker though, but definitely a new dimension to what we already have.

Definitely agree Radon. In my opinion Brian Laws was useless and made the team weaker than the one he inherited with poor loan and permanent signings. Sturrock also had next to no resources but brought in some real quality players to the squad. By far, Purse is the worst of the lot. He is a leader but he can't play football. He is a true liability and can't see where we're going with players like him. He's clearly struggling to be a League 1 player so even if we manage to go up this year, whats he going to be like in the Championship. End of the road for Purse as far as I am concerned.

Too right Purse is a liability you can guarantee he'l drop a bollock or 2 every game just like Watford game the sooner hes dropped the better im crossing my fingers Purse gets dropped with immediate effect,he should have been replaced half time on Sat as Irvine hinted in post interview.

i'll be honest and say i thought Purse was a great signing when i heard about it,thought heres a natural leader much in the coughlan mould, but after bout 7 games it was obvious he wasnt, and with the financial restraints on the club i can see how he has lasted this long, but surley now is the time for him to go,delighted we are signing young up and coming players, the future is bright, the future is blue and white

Were not out the running but I can see it being a struggle, Playoffs for me now and that's not gonna be easy! that said if we build a strong team we should ***** it next season, players need to gel and click and this may not happen straight away! not to be doom mongerer but there's always next season! And hopefully well have a new manager aswell as a strong new look team with youth on it's side!

i dont think the season has goned at all, we are only half way through and only 8 points behind the automatic places. hopefully our worst performances are behind us and these new players might just be the shot in the arm we need. 4 or 5 good results in a row, which we are more than capable of, and we are right back in it. we now have a decent run of about 6 winnable games so its far from over. Like eire owl i thought purse was just what we needed at the time but anybody with eyes can see his best days are well past him. being a wednesday boy id let weaver take the captains armband and purse must become a bench warmer. i think spurr can go, never really rated him,he struggles too much with pacey wingers but id keep jones, he's young with many good attributes, coached properly he could become a very good player. im loving our new age policy for new players, nice to see us finally having one eye on the future for the first time in years. one new midfielder to challenge coke and miller, or better them, and im happy with our january transfers.
