Owls Go Weston To Bolster Midfield

Wednesday are understood to be keen on bringing Brentford winger Myles Weston to Hillsborough before the close of the January transfer window.

Owls boss Alan Irvine has been in touch with their npower League One rivals regarding the winger's availability, according to reports in the Sheffield Star and on BBC Radio Sheffield today.

Irvine has already bolstered the Owls' defensive and attacking options this month and is thought to be focusing on Wednesday's midfield.

The 22-year-old winger featured for the Bees in their 1-0 victory over Wednesday earlier this season.

Most of the transfer talk this month has been about players arriving at Hillsborough, but one player who could be heading for the exit door is skipper Darren Purse.

Millwall are understood to be interested in taking the 33-year-old to the New Den this month, and Purse could well be keen for a switch to the team he supported as a boy.

i truely hope the purse deal goes through. Dont really know much about this lad, any good?
Sorry Mr. Purse I know your heart's in the right place but I think it's best for all if you take this move. Weston could be a good young signing

Purse I'm on my way to drive you there free of charge and carry your cases!! Like said hearts in the right place but a reliability on our promotion push!
left winger so maybe a young rival for teale?
Get this young lad and hopefully give jj something to think about, or another one that can be off loaded for me.

It is brilliant that all the players we are bringing in are under 23, young players who want to be legends in this new era of SWFC. I cant imagine Lee Hughes is part of that vision. But say what you want about Irvine's tactics, he does seem to be able to spot a player and is good in negotiations. I have heard about this guy Weston, and he would be a brilliant signing!
dont know much about this guy can he cross a ball because we have no one who can if we got madine and mellor up top they need the service hopefully if he signs will turn into a good player
don't know much about him but he can't be worse than johnson

from brentford forum: The 22 year old winger joined the Bees in the summer of 2009 from Notts County. Although his form this season has been up and down, his pace and direct running makes him a match for any full back. jj MK2

So if Purse goes who would you have as skipper? Your thoughts gents please! Would you give it to an older experienced guy, a newbie or adopt the BL approach and have a club and team captain??
Weaver, for captain that is!
Weaver or Miller perhaps? Definitely better to have someone with a bit of experience I think? Although i'm not a huge fan of keepers being captains to be honest!?
Owls That!
If this this Weston geazer turns out to be half as good as the last Brentford player we signed we will be laughing. Some of the youngsters sadly won't remeber him but he had the biggest forehead and best header of the ball I have ever seen in my 40 odd years ???????????
spain won the world cup with the keeper as their captain.
Good point but I don't quite think its Casillas's captaining skills that makes them stand out as world champions and the best team in the world!
Owls That!
haha true
The captain's gotta be Weaver
Its a central midfielder we are desperate for a midfield general, sumone who can win a ball, pass a ball to feet of his team mates and get from box to box and be a real pain in the ass the the opposition.
just took this from Brentfords home page. Sheffield Wednesday are rumoured to have made an inquiry about Myles Weston according to the South Yorkshire Star Beesotted doesn't know how much fact is behind the rumour - or what response any enquiry received - but despite his inconsistency the loss of Weston would be a major blow to the team as an attacking force. Myles has just started to hit a better patch of form following a recent hamstring injury and, for the early part of the season, was pretty well Brentford's only attacking threat from midfield. The speedy left winger joined Brentford from Notts County at the start of last season for an initial fee (following a tribunal) of 25,000 with several additional tiers of payment thereafter.
Now we have a pretty big squad, for me the only person who will 100% start is weaver, surely the choice. Not usually a fan of keeper captains but being a wednesday supporter i bet it would mean the world to him.
got to be weaver for now - but reckon 12months time might be m morrison playing at centre half and captain.

Agree DEZZYP,think you shud lead from the back plus hes a Wednesdayite.
Tommy miller as captain for me.As for Purse, hope Millwall take him as hes becoming a liability recently especially against pace like Charlton had on Saturday and hes costing us goals and seems to make big blunders every game.
leons gloves
i would hope one of the new defenders would make a captain, possibly reynolds only time will tell which has a leadership type personality. i'm happy to give one of the younger lads the captaincy if they're right. all this wise old head rubbish means nothing, terry has been chelsea's captain for donkeys cos he's a leader
Hirsty's Shinpads
just been on the official site and purse has left so we will find out soon enough. good luck darren your commitment couldn't be faulted but got exposed too often

i think on the leader situation miller, coke or maybe reynolds as captain as they are good leaders and conduct themselves to a very high standard, weston is a good yuoung player and once again (aswell as hughes, madine, reynolds, morrison and johnson) which i would welcome to the club . nice to see us building for the future
Hughes??? Young???? Good???
Owls That!
Weston looked decent when I've seen him twice on Sky this season. He likes to attack and take on the full-back which means he'd be a crowd favourite is he signed (providing he actually beats the full-back!) Brentford are not keen to sell though so this may be a no go!
OWLS THat! I MEANT THAT WESTON WAS YOUNG AND GOOD !! and at the end of the day regardless of what hughes has done if he does the business then so be it. at the end of the day reda johnson and madine are criminals but no1 complains, yeah i know hughes's crime was was but if he get goals so what. aslong as he conducts himself now well on and off the pitch it doesnt matter.
Careful SWFC_LUKE, Johnson and Madine are not criminals yet, they just have due dates in court so innocent until proven guilty! As for Hughes, he's scum!
If Darren Purses defending was as big as his heart he wud be world class.
to be honest, whoever says it doesnt matter what he has done should be ashamed, not only did he kill, he ran off and left them to die. the guy is scum of the earth. i'd rather have 20 years in league one then that coward grace our shirt once. and balls to second chances, he doesnt deserve it. on a happy plus point....goodbye darren.
Bang on DEZZY, thanku!
Owls That!
I'm with you on that score DEZZY and he shouldn't have been allowed by the FA to earn a decent wage again through football. I'm sure there are fickle fans who would love Hughes once he started scoring if he did sign but not me I'm pleased to say.
good luck purse it just didnt work out, also i hear its really westcarr were after not hughes
Irvine has come out and said that the Hughes deal is probably a dead one now because we were knocked back. No word on Westcarr though at work from any of the County fans!
