Owls Sign Villa Midfielder Osbourne

Wednesday have bolstered their midfield with the signing of Aston Villa midfielder Isaiah Osbourne on loan until the end of the season.

Owls boss Alan Irvine has been desperately trying to bolster his midfield options in the January transfer window and has succeeded in bringing Barclays Premier League experience to Hillsborough as his fifth signing of the month.

Osbourne, 23, has made 30 senior appearances for Villa after coming through the club's youth ranks but currently finds himself down the pecking order.

The central midfielder has enjoyed previous loan spells with Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough.

Osbourne will wear the number four shirt during his stay at S6 and will go straight in the squad to travel to Peterborough United in npower League One on Tuesday night.

Osbourne follows Reda Johnson, Michael Morrison, Gary Madine and Mark Reynolds to Hillsborough in the January transfer window, and more new additions could well follow before tomorrow's 11pm transfer deadline.

He's got a brother called Isaac that plays in a similar position and I often get them mixed up. He's not Premiership class but will do a decent job I'm sure when he settles in and should he prove to be a success we may get him for nothing in the summer because he's out of contract!

Strengths Im a modern-day midfielder Ive got a great engine and can win the ball and then run with it. Im lucky that Ive got some top players alongside me. Weaknesses I need to work on my passing, I sometimes give the ball away. The gaffer is always hollering at me to get it back. I play a bit like People say I remind them of Patrick Vieira a massive compliment. I like to think there are similarities in the way we play. Highlights Getting my first start for Villa and playing against Manchester United in the FA Cup last season. I started the game in midfield and had a one-on-one with Edwin van der Sar early on, which I botched. It was an amazing experience. I spent most of the game chasing shadows.

He says he's lucky to have some top players around him so he's better get used to a culture shock. He also says his passing is not his strong point so that puts him in our top 2 or 3 passers at the club now then haha

I think he'll do well for ye, could be a good platform to get his career going, a lot of promise but unfulfilled, he's not going to make it at Villa simple as that, 23yrs old, loaned out twice already if he does well at Weds you'll have a good chance of keeping him.

nah, know nothing at all about this lad. hopefully can make a good impression. I think a young loan from the premier league was what everybody expected.

I agree retford It may be the break he and us are desperate for. Not many of us had heard too much about Joey O'Brien and Kenwyn Jones when they came on loan and what a job they did for us in this league.

I'm guessing OllyOwl took that from the guy's Wikipedia page or something similar. Sounds a bit like a description of Carlton P and he did quite well for us. Welcome to Hilsborough young man!

Let's face it, we were never going to sign Mascherano as our holding midfielder so just give the guy and chance and judge him when you've seen him play a few games!!

i hope he does well, hes not a premier league player by any stretch but i am sure he will be a good player at this level. he works hard and thats often as important as anything in the lower leagues, no risk for you guys is it really with the loan. and if he does well, hopefully he will stay with you and help you get better :) good luck lads and to isiah
