Wednesday Confirm Irvine Departure

Wednesday have now confirmed the departure of boss Alan Irvine on the official website.

The Scot was understood to have held a meeting with Owls chairman Milan Mandaric last night before learning of his fate.

And, after unofficial reports saying Irvine had been sacked as Wednesday boss, the club have now confirmed the news of his departure on the official club site.

Assistant manager Rob Kelly and coach Billy Barr will take control of first team affairs until a new man is appointed.

Kelly was manager at Leicester City for a period before being sacked by Mandaric when the two worked together at the Walkers Stadium.

But he, along with Barr, is set to be in charge for the visit of MK Dons to Hillsborough in npower League One this weekend.

Extremely gutted if im honest. Should have been given more time. You cant run any business with no money, then when you do get some you get sacked two weeks later!!! Anyway lets not dwell on the past to much. Im not two optimistic on who we will realistically replace him with thou, and if they will be any better than Irvine. I don’t think we can attract the Ex Prem managers and I certainly do not want Megson or Keane. But I have got a funny feeling Paul Ince may be looked at. Anyway Thanks Irvine for all your hard work and UTO!!!!!!!

MM gave him time and backed him in the january window but unfortunately results have been poor and far too many goals conceded. I said on Wednesday AI will be gone by the weekend as MM isn't stupid and I was right although to be fair it was pretty obvious!!! As MM has said in his statement we haven't won a league game since he took over which is clearly far from good enough. It's a results business and unfortuntely without results you're on thin ice and AI would have known that. Hopefully any new appointment can get the most out of this squad with one or two loan signings maybe and push back up the league, play-offs are a must, qtr finals of FA cup will be nice as well!!

All signs pointing to Megson at the moment then , wouldnt be my first choice by an stretch, only plus is that he is wednesday through and through

Regardless of how long MM should or should not have given him, he was never his own appointment so we will have see who he now brings in. I've been impressed with his actions/backing in the transfer window and hope that he can do the same with his new managerial team. My heart wants Hughton but my head is saying Megson!? Whatever happens, we now have the complete new era at Wednesday that we've been crying out for and it was unfortunate that Alan Irvine was caught in the transition stage!

Thanks Irvine for leaving us in the 5hite, i said you were not the man after we lost at home to Carlisle, and i was proved right, you've had a lot more money than the last few managers we have had, lets hope from Saturday that a more attacking football team turns up and puts bums back on seats at Hillsborough instead of all that negative rubbish that you installed into them. No wonder the crowds were dwindling you were boring the pants off us all.

Am I just being thick here but isn't Irvine's staff just going to do what he's been doing? I like the thought of a manager with wednesday ties managing but not Megson! Please not Megson!
Owls That!
Blackwell? Seriously? I don't know but I've heard a rumour regarding Ray Wilkins and its the only one I've liked the sound of so far. Don't fancy Megson not sure at all about Sheridan, top player and now doing well with Chesterfield but that is a totally different proposition to us. got sacked from oldham for a boozed brawl with players at the greyhound track allegedly. i watched newcastle a lot last season as they had every game televised and I didn't think they were that good, they had a lot of premier league players still and a lot of good luck with late winners in games they had been battered in (we should have beaten them twice but only took a point). maybe we need a 'lucky' manager tho!

personally i would like hughton or sheridan wednesday have always been a better side well they play on the deck we need someone who can get us playing again we have a gd squad of players but they are irvine's players let's try for the play offs and then overhaul the squad in the summer come on milan make the right choice
retfordowl1867
just seen the goals from tuesday night, who ever we get in will need to be a miracle worker to solve that because all 5 of their goals were easily preventable and caused by lots of individual mistakes

Just saw the fixtures list, after this weekend's home game we have 5 on the trot away from home - Ouch!!! I am worried about the favourites already, no to Megson, Worthington and Dowie, I would prefer we go an get Hughton or pay-up for Sheridan.

Mixed feelings.... Feel sorry for AI as he's a nice guy but nice guy does not equal good manager. Things just didn't go right for him. On the new manager I just hope we bring in the right man for the job because we need to stop the revolving doors and gain stability. Good luck Alan and good luck Milan on bringing in the best candidate...
