Gary Megson has been appointed the new manager of Sheffield Wednesday on a three and a half year contract.

The first task for Megson will be tomorrow's game against MK Dons and the Owls will have to put a run together to get back into the promotion mix-up.

A terrible start to 2011 has seen Wednesday fall far behind the leading pack and ultimately cost Alan Irvine his job.

Promotion is what Wednesday fans desire and if Megson can deliver that this season he'll win over the Owls faithful.

Chairman Milan Mandaric wants the club to be in the Premier League as soon as possible and this length of contract gives Megson considerable time to achieve that.

Megson has already won promotion to the Premier League twice as West Brom boss and his last managerial role was in the top flight with Bolton Wanderers.

Is this the right appointment for the Owls? Has Mandaric moved too quickly to replace Irvine? Are you happy with a former player returning to manage the club?

surprised that we have given him such a big contract big if he can deliver than am not bothered the club needs stability interesting that he'll be in charge 2mora hope he picks the right team

Turner has never achieved anything as a manager though Owlet, at least Megson has some Championship success! Whatever happens we must not expect instant success because although we have a good squad of players, he needs to assess eveyone!

Spot on Don! Under 24hrs isn't long to work before the first game. I hear what you're saying owl1, and I agree that attacking, entertaining football is what I want to see (well, hear). MM was asked this in an interview yesterday and he basically said style is great... but winning is what matters. I know the two are connected, but if Megson can get them winning consistently and out of this division, whether they be attacking, defensive, or hopping in potato sacks... I'll be as pleased as punch!

I think, if it was going to be an ex-player, then Megson is the best available. I like Sheridan, but he doesn't have the level of experience required yet. In our situation, a win is the important thing and if that means it comes at the expense of attractive, free-flowing football, so be it. We all know our squad have the talent and the only thing missing is someone to get them fired up and working as a team - in that respect Megson is the man and we all need to get behind him and the team for the rest of the season's push back up the table!!!

Oh Dear,God help you, you`re gonna need it. Be prepared for boring 0-0 nils if your lucky,going home frustrated and being slagged off as "pathetic".You will never see attacking football again.As a first rate club you have appointed a fifth rate manager. Good luck from a Bolton fan who experienced the worst manager since watching the Wanderers from 1955.
