Mandaric Eyes 'One Or Two' Loan Deals

Wednesday chairman Milan Mandaric has confirmed he'll help new boss Gary Megson bring in 'one or two' loan players to bolster his squad.

The Owls chairman helped fund the signing of five players in the January transfer window and insists he'll help Megson with loan signings after the window for loan deals opened this week.

And they could be at Hillsborough in time for this weekend's clash against Rochdale in npower League One at Spotland.

'We want to bring in one or two players as quickly as possible,' Mandaric told the Sheffield Star.

'We are looking at the market and appointing additional staff; we have been getting organised and working all week on these things.'

Wednesday missed out on a deal to sign QPR winger Lee Cook on loan in the closing stages of the winter transfer window, with the former Fulham man pulling out at the last minute.

A return for Cook is unlikely to materialise, although it's understoof that Megson has been hard at work looking to boost his squad with new arrivals this week.

My guess is an experience centre half to replace Morrison plus a defensive / tackling midfielder. Once again, how wonderful to be speculating on additions rather than hapless castoffs. UTO

Not really much give away there though so we'll have to wait and see who come in (if any) but I think we should leave the defence along now to settle in. I think bringing in 'another' defender is not necessarily needed if we can get an experienced deep-lying player sitting in the middle of the park to orchestrate things more. I think we're being knocked back by clubs in our search for this position. I hope Osbourne can help in the short-term but he lacks a lot of first-team experience.

i think megson should try and get the defenders we've got to play first - i'm sure they're not bad players despite the woeful performances and GM needs to give em a good going over and try and improve them before bringing in more defenders - we already have - buxton, otsemobor, hinds, beevers, spurr, morrison, johnson, reynolds and jones - surely there is a decent back 4 there somewhere? like the don says midfield needs to be stronger to protect the back 4 and we need a proper captain that can tell everyone where they're supposed to be and what they're supposed to be doing.

disagree with 19 games left we can not afford to llet a back for settle its sobvious they are missing guidence and an expereinced head at the back is crucial in my view remember when we signed johnson from derby and we were solid over night it could take several games for these lads to get settled then they miught be shot of confidence we need stability there now and a creative midfielder who can dictact the tempo and help in the final third both need to be experienced the defenders we have at the minute will be all good players as inderviduals but no has the experince both in our squad and in there own careers to really take controll and boss that back line cue loan signing

agree fozzy if we are to make the play offs then we need to tighten up at the back maybe a experianced head in there would help hopefully osbourne will be answer to are midfield problems be interesting to see the line up come saturday maybe with a new face in there i would like a young winger

agree that an old head with a big voice and experience is needed, just feel that with 9 defenders we should be able to put out a decent back 4, why is Hinds even at the club if he's never considered? he won promotion from league 1 with hull and scunny i think? maybe purse weren't as bad as everyone thought?
Patrick Blondeau
No sorry Patrick but Purse was exactly as bad as everyone thought. He was a leader and had the right head for the game but didn't have the skill and became a liability. It is right to say that our clear defensive frailities were not all down to Purse because now he's gone it is shown that there were other problems. I don't doubt we need a defensive leader that can play but any group of professional defenders should be doing better than ours have recently. I think the big problem is organisation and self-belief. They have been a mess conceding 3, 4 and 5 a game can't just be because they are all useless. Hopefully, Megson can get them back to basics and then we might actually see what one or two of them can do.

I agree, with all the defenders on our books now we should be able to put out a defence that can do the job. Only problem right now is that you can't bring in new players in a line that should be organised and each player should know their jobs and expect them to gel straight away. Hinds has never let us down in the past in The Championship and I don't understand why he fell out of favour with Irvine?! Only time will tell who's right and who's wrong once Megson brings in his man/men...
TheDon1974
Dont see any scence bringing loan players in now all this will do is dicourage the ones we have on the books. With a squad like ours if we cant get out of this league dont see a couple of loanee's making a difference. What we need is Leadership, what happened to the Beevers that was going to be bought by every premiership club in the country Hinds had more good performances than bad ones time for these players to be given a chance by the new manager
