Wednesday boss Gary Megson is understood to be keen on bringing Leicester City defender Jack Hobbs to the club on a loan deal until the end of the season.
The former Liverpool Academy product is set for a move away from the npower Championship club on loan, sparking interest from a number of clubs for his services, including Wednesday.
Megson is understood to have been in touch with his former club this week regarding the possibility of signing Hobbs, who is highly rated at the Walkers Stadium despite seemingly falling down the pecking order following a host of new arrivals at the club recently.
The centre-back saw a late loan move to SPL giants Celtic scuppered due to transfer restrictions in Scotland, and Hull City, managed by his former Leicester boss Nigel Pearson, and Barnsley are also thought to be keen on a move.
City boss Sven Goran Eriksson told the Leicester Mercury recently that: 'Jack is a Leicester player and, if another defender comes in, then we are very keen that he goes out and plays games.
'He is our player, he is young, a big talent and we want him to play football, if not here then elsewhere for a time.
'It will be better for him than playing in the reserves and sitting on the bench. But, first, we have to cover ourselves.'
Wednesday bolstered their defence with a host of new additions last month, but continued poor form has led to Megson, appointed as Owls boss just last week, to want to further improve his defence.
Hull City are thought to be favourites for his loan signature, thanks to their Championship status, but Hobbs could opt for a move to Hillsborough if a deal with the Tigers can't be struck.
And Owls chairman Milan Mandaric, City's former chairman, could help smooth any potential negotiations.
