Tudgay Blow Confirmed

Owls fans have had their worst fears confirmed with the news that striker Marcus Tudgay will miss the start of the season through injury.

The former Derby County man has undergone surgery to repair severed toe tendons and will be out for between two and four months - with the first game of the new season just four weeks away.

Tudgay injured his toe in a freak accident at a family barbecue last week when he accidently stood on broken glass.

The news is a big blow for Owls boss Paul Sturrock who sees Tudgay as an integral part of his new-look Wednesday side for the new season.

Injury problems blighted the Owls first campaign back in the Championship last season with several key players sat on the sidelines for a number of months.

Further bad news comes with the news that defender Richard Wood and new-boy Wade Small could also miss the start of the season after picking up injuries during training.

Keep checking Vital Sheffield Wednesday for all the latest updates on the progress of the three players.

Here we go again. We can't afford more injuries like last season. Sturrock needs to have a word with Mr Allen to get funds for a larger squad, even if it's through loans.
