Owls Target Double Hammers Swoop

Owls boss Gary Megson has confirmed that he's looking to sign West Ham duo Benni McCarthy and Herita Ilunga on loan.

Megson has been looking to bolster his squad - struggling in npower League One - since his arrival at Hillsborough but has yet to complete any signings.

The Owls, thanks to chairman Milan Mandaric, made five signings in the January transfer window under former boss Alan Irvine.

But things have yet to pick up at S6 and Mandaric has promised to fund more signings to help the Owls start climbing the table - with McCarthy, a striker, and Ilunga, who plays left-back, top of the Owls' wanted list.

Megson told the Daily Mail: 'We are trying to get both players in and the two clubs have been in dialogue for a few days.'

Both have fallen down the pecking order at the Barclays Premier League club and are keen to get some first team football before now and the end of the season.

And Mandaric is understood to have given the green light to sign the duo, with the Hammers expected to help out by paying the bulk of their wages.

interesting... in other news, I've just become friends with Benito Carbone on Facebook. The real Carbone. Now I'm going to try and convince him to come back and save our club.

IT was a very interesting team selection last night, with Morrison and Reynolds not even on the bench! Perhaps we can do a swap deal!

What position does the one who isn't benni mcarthy play?

interesting would be awesome if we could pull this off

I would love to have players of their calibre at the club, its a real statement of intent from GM if he can get them

Herita Ilunga at 28 sounds like a good plan and will bring experience to the LB spot. Bringing in the overweight Benni McCarthy to the club I'm not sure sure or keen about. He's 33 and will give us nothing more than Clinton Morrison currently does!?

Have you seen McCarthy this season, the blokes a physical mess, Ilunga would be interesting, Mccarthy at 12k a week no thanks

agree with don and aston - i live in east end and everyone hates mcCarthy - he's about 2 stone overweight and refuses to do anything about it - they even threatened to stop his wages cos he was so unfit! always thought ilunga was decent player but doesn't get a look in with avram grant - i think he can play at RB aswell which might be what gm is thinking about?

We seem to be giving alot of penalies away lately and hopefully with them missing theirs yesterday that lady luck may be at last shining on us.U.T.O
ollyowl70
hes overweight and a bit old but he still has a world class pedigree, for me he can stand on the penalty spot all frickin game as long as when that chance comes his way he'll stick it the back of the net!

No point at all for these deals. We arent going down, we arent going up. no point having a lazy striker when our biggest problem hasnt been putting chances away, its been creating them. id rather see super milan save his cash for the summer for a massive and necessary squad revamp.
DEZZYP
i would take Ilunga for the rest of the season but not benni if we r looking for a striker then jason roberts from blackburn would bang them in all day long in this league.

jason roberts gets football at blackburn though, i think we need to not get too excited about what league these guys are coming from.its not everyday we attract premier league standard. benni mccarthys goal record speaks for itself and herita illunga is quality. both players and better than the players already at the club . Agree with DEZZYP thoguh we do need milan to save cash for a squad revamp in the summer .
