Young Owls Ram-Raided

A young Wednesday reserves side went down to a 2-0 defeat at Derby County this afternoon to remain rock-bottom of the totesport.com Central Division.

Chris Porter and Conor Doyle bagged the goals for the hosts either side of the break to send Derby up to third in the division.

The Rams, who fielded a couple of experienced players in their squad, fully deserved the victory against a young Wednesday side who have struggled for results throughout the reserve campaign so far this season.

They've picked up just one point from ten games this season but will be more interested in gaining much-needed match experience as they look to continue their development through the Owls Academy.

Derby: Atkins, Cole, Ball (Richards), Witham, Galinksi, Hendrick, Croft, Boulding, Porter (Hegarty), Doyle (Dillon), Pringle. Subs: Severn

Wednesday: Cuff, Tumilty, Haywood, Poulton, Barnett, Magill, Pinhorn, Cottingham, Kyle, Lacey, Kendall. Subs: Peacock, Wall, Mir, Canham, Rowbotham, Husband.

This goes to show how much we need to strengthen in depth because we don't really have a reserve team of any note. It's good experience for the youngsters though!

i disagree, i think what it shows is we have a youth team and a pretty big first team but not a reserve team. sheff united reserves got beat 6-1 v barnsly, roy carroll let in 2 goals in 7 minutes then got sent off.

Sorry Ozzie but isn't that pretty much what I said?! Plus I wouldn't say our first team is the biggest in the division either!
TheDon1974
oh yeah, doh, dunno what i was on. still think we have a large first team, weve used 29 players this season and palmer is the only youngster out of those i believe.

I thought Carroll had retired until I saw it on the news that they'd decided not to give him a contract. Wise move methinks!
