Owls Capture Iron's Jones On Loan

Owls Capture Iron's Jones On Loan

Wednesday have completed their second loan capture in as many days with Scunthorpe United defender Rob Jones signing until the end of the season.

The 31-year-old also arrives on an 'emergency loan', as Wolves centre-back Danny Batth did yesterday.

He'll go straight into the squad that makes the tough trip to Southampton on Saturday.

The former Grimsby Town and Hibernian man has played 16 times for the Iron this season but hasn't featured since the 5-1 home thrashing against Everton in the FA Cup in early January.

Jones impressed while making 121 appearances for Hibs.

He captained the Easter Road side to their first silverware in 16 years when they lifted the Scottish League Cup in 2007.

now he looks more like the experienced rough looking centre back we need. a little late in the day but hopefully will impress looking towards next season.

Well we've run out of perminations for Megson to try and this makes sense to me with the injuries we are now facing in addition! Listening to Milan on the BBC website he's looking at footing a 7 million pound personal loss being we've not made it to promotion this season... Watched the goals again aswell while on was on the BBC website and they were even worse than I remember. MM has to protect his investiment... lets hope that these two can show the players we've got the concept of defending. WTID

On the flipside thse two signings show either a lack of confidence in Megson that he can do what is required with what we have or MM's lack of faith that Megson can do what is required. Megson did say "I wont bring loan players in! I want to look at what we have!" only a week or so ago. This is rapid turn-a-round and wiffs slightly of desperation. Then again if we don't turn our form on it's head we are going to be in a desperate situation. UTO

Not convinced, he was the clown who knocked himself out on the goalpost against us last season. Very much another Darren Purse turns up occasionally can do something great but then 3 games after just doesn't even turn up!

always looked gd when he played againest us give the lad a chance cant be any worse than what we have

one day someone may actually praise something relating to Sheff Wed. I know this season has been atrocious beyond words but we've all been saying get some defenders in on loan ASAP and now it's been done some people are still knocking the moves... good business in my eyes and it shows that Megson (who I'm not a huge admirer of) is working on improving the right areas. now let's keep out fingers crossed these guys help us stave off relegation.

Fingers are crossed and I'm fully behind the Loan signings... wish Megson hadn't ruled out doing something like this that's all!! I really wish that MM had given Megson the chance to sign players instead of Irvine but then that boat has sailed. Really want to see how they perform on Saturday as I'm guessing they'll both go into the starting 11. Hoping for a good performance would love a win but the performance is the all important thing for me. Hopefully Megson will find the mix that works. UTO

10goalpayne......What would you give to have Purse back now. It seems to me that he was the glue holding the fragile defence together. There was no wonder he was exposed so many times, when he was covering 3 other players on a regular basis let alone the mental stress that must have caused
17/03/2011 13:16:00
Casowl... think there's a lot of truth in what you say, sitting where I do in the north stand the number of times I saw Purse covering another woeful Buxton performance or being pulled all over the park due to poor performances infont of him were numerous. (He was made to look worse than he was.) He faced an uphill struggle coming in off the back of Woody's departure. When we were losing games he played in it was the team defending poorly and Purse getting the blame being that he was always on clean up duty. Since his departure the fact that he was taking the flack for a poor team performance became more evident to all his doubters. None of us would have be talking about getting him back or missing him however if the money replacing him had been spent on what we truly needed instead of what we got.
