Loan Deadline Day For Owls

Today is the final day of the current campaign that Wednesday can bring any players to the club on an emergency loan, or send players out the other way.

And things are expected to be busy at Hillsborough, with boss Gary Megson keen to bolster his squad to avoid any end-of-season relegation battle.

Bolton Wanderers midfielder Joey O'Brien is understood to be on his way to S6 for the remainder of the season, while an experienced goalkeeper is also high on Megson's priority list.

O'Brien, who would return for a second loan spell following his stint in the 2004-05 season, pulled out of the Bolton Reserve squad that faced Bury this week and reports in Lancashire pointed towards a move to the Owls.

Megson, of course, will know O'Brien well following his stay as Bolton boss.

The Owls manager will also be disappointed if he fails to bring an experienced goalkeeper in to fill in for Nicky Weaver, who is out injured for a month.

The inexperienced Richard O'Donnell was in goal at Southampton at the weekend, and played relatively well, but Megson is still keen for an old head before the transfer deadline.

If we can get O'Brien in until the end of the season (with a view to a permanent deal) and also a keeper as cover then it will be a good day all-round.

I'd quite like players like Potter and O'Conner sent out on loan to clubs in the lower divisions. Think some would benefit from a culture shock and crowds of less that 5000 and show clearly the intention of the club to cut loose any driftwood! UTO

Think Megson is in some sort of meltdown. Said he wanted an experienced keeper, we now sign a 19 year old from Wigan who has been out on loan at Shrewsbury and Hartlepool. If O'Donnel does not start Saturday, what a kick in the teeth for the lad. On a positive, O'Brien coming is a bonus. Just need a goalscorer a winger and a right back now.

Think Megson has said some things recently that he's then gone and contridicted but I think that's only because he's actually telling us what he's thinking at the time... The fact that he's changing his mind probably means there are external issues affecting what he wants to do! He said he didn't want any more loan players into the club a couple of weeks ago but then Weaver and Beavers got injured and circumstance changed. I'd rather Megson tells us what he's thinking than be another silent manager that does things and then drops them on us and leaves us to wonder what the hell is going on! Megson is speaking his mind and I don't really mind if things happen that go against what he says if there's an evident reason or the circumstances that's led to the change in direction are explained.

Personally I think that Megson wanted an experienced keeper in the first instance and probably couldn't get his man so will now stick with O'Donnell. I think the lad from Wigan is in purely because if anything happens to our first choice as the lad Cuff is not the answer yet. As for O'Brien, great loan signing and hope his injury blight is behind him. Owen Coyle has said he needs games so that he's ready for the first team. I hope that's not the case and he goes back to Bolton at the end of the season and signs a new contract for them!

Bolton wont offer him a new contract at the end of the season thats for sure.He hasnt played a first team game for them since October 2008.Hopefully he can do a job for us until end of season but I hope we dont sign him permanently.Last thing we need is another injury-prone player.Had enough of them recently.
