Owls Sign Premier League Loan Duo

Wednesday have completed a double loan swoop before today's emergency loan deadline by bring Joey O'Brien and Lee Nicholls to Hillsborough.

Wednesdayites will be well aware of the qualities of midfielder O'Brien, who arrives from Bolton Wanderers until the end of the current campaign, following a loan stint in the 2004-05 season.

Nicholls is a goalkeeper who arrives at S6 from Wigan Athletic, also until the end of the season.

The duo are both expected to go straight into Wednesday's matchday squad for the trip to Dagenham & Redbridge in npower League One on Saturday.

I would be surprised if Nichols starts for two reasons (1) O'Donnell played well last Saturday, and (2) O'Donnell knows how rubbish our team is and therefore is better able to aniticpate who is going to mess up, deliver short back passes, go to sleep at corners, play "statues" at throw ins, etc etc etc (I could go on for hours) and consequently keeps shouting at them.

Lee Nicholls is our youth team keeper and current Young Player of the Season at the Latics, he's a brilliant prospect but only 18 and not featured for the 1st team yet so no experience, I've seen him a few times for the reserves, he is big and commands his box well and a good shotstopper

Thought Megson wanted an experienced keeper to come in and use O Donnell as cover,obviously had a re think.Agree with bluedog,whoever we have in goal will need to be on their game with our defence,anything can happen.

Joey O'Brien is clearly a great signing, obviously judgement on Nicholls has to be delayed but good signs - not going for 'golden oldies' and taking a punt with youth for once! Fair does Meggo.

Don't see why we got Nicholls, he's just as inexperienced as O'Donnell. Much rather have O'Donnell at least he's under contract and really wants to play for us. Not saying Nicholls is a bad player or anything because I'm sure he's a decent keeper. Didn't think we needed a keeper anyway. As for O'Brien... I'm sure a half fit O'Brien is better than a fully fit Potter/O'Connor, great signing.

nicholls might not be the old head we expected but it might just be a case of getting him in for the bench as we don't have any cover. good chance for o'brien to impress for a new club/contract come end of season - maybe with us? surely potters days are numbered??!!?

muur you miserable sod! s5owls i've got my fingers, toes, legs crossed for potter out. I think he's got a year left on his contract though so who in their right mind is gonna sign a midfielder that can't play a forward ball??!
