Owls Look Towards Summer Signings

Owls Look Towards Summer Signings

Wednesday boss Gary Megson today met chairman Milan Mandaric to discuss the club's recruitment over the summer.

The Owls still have to secure their npower League One future but look likely to avoid an end-of-season relegation battle.

But that hasn't stopped the Owls drawing up plans to re-shape their squad for a much-improved campaign next season.

Megson will no doubt want to overhaul his squad, much of whom were signing by former boss Alan Irvine, following an extremely below-par season.

Mandaric told the Sheffield Star: 'I am going to meet with Gary and we will see what's what for next year. We will discuss how many players he might need to take us to the next level.'

The Owls will also discuss which players to keep at the club next season, as well as players to come in and bolster the squad for a promotion push.

A number are out of contract at the end of the season, including captain Tommy Miller, and Megson will decide if they're to stay or go.

I get the sense that JOC will definitely be kept on - Megson likes honest players and I've seen few as honest as JOC for a while at Hillsborough. I can see JJ going, along with (hopefully) Buxton. Wouldn't say no to Joey O'Brien, maybe Rob Jones and a bit of Chris O'Grady up top? In Milan, we have faith.

I also think he'll keep JOC but hopefully he will be kept as a squad player rather than a first-team regular! Get rid of Buxton, seriously? He's been our best defender this season in a lot of people's opinion. See how Rob Jones performs between now and the end of the season and then offer him a deal if he continues to play how he has done. If we could get JOB then that would be good (providing he can find old form) but I'll have to look up this Chris O'Grady chap!

o'grady? no thanks, i live in rochdale, know plenty about him. He's a forward who did well in league 2, very little in league 1. i fancy getting chris taylor from oldham, good young winger who gets the odd goal, get him for cheap too with oldhams financial worries.

O'Grady?!?! That's either a very uneducated shout or a hilarious joke. Chris Taylor is a decent player would be happy with him. What about Davies down at Chesterfield? He's out of contract and when I've seen him play he looks such a handful, big powerful and can score?

as if i was being serious about O'Grady, of course it was a joke. :)Buxton is an absolute bafoon. A few good games this season can't overshadow what a waste of space he's been since he was signed. i hear from a mate that Rotherham are happy to sell 'ALF' at the right price. Surely worth a punt?

Buxton I don't really rate too much, very inconsistent. Le Fondre I would be very interested in but I doubt Megson will be going for the little striker who does nothing but score. I predict most of our signings will be tall players who are very physical but without much creativity and flair. I like Megson, just not as a manager... I very much see him not making it through 2 months of the 11/12 season.

Got to disagree with sw93, I think with his own team he'll do the buisness next season, I think he's done alright with the crap he's got to work with at the moment!

Alright? 4 wins in 15? It's not like he's not had time with the team. Crap? I'm sure you like all of us are dissapointed we didn't get in the play-offs or promoted this season, right? So you surely along with every Wednesday fan knows that team should be able to compete at the top end of he table in League 1. If the players we have are so bad why are all so dissapointed at not acheiving this season? 2 bad managers is the answer to that. The inconsistancy will continue through to next season with his "own team"

I can't wait for the summer spending. My only fear is this: remember at the start of this season? every one of us was saying how well Irvine had done to get the likes of clinton morrison, gary teale in on free transfers. we all agreed we'd walk this league or least be challenging with the squad we'd assembled. now look at us? we had a genuine relegation fear at one point. i just hope we throw some serious money around this summer.
