Owls pull the plug on reserve team

Wednesday have confirmed that they will not enter a reserve team into a competitive league as of next season.

Owls boss Gary Megson has taken the decision to scrap the reserve side from playing competitive games and instead play behind-closed-door matches as and when required.

The Owls put a reserve side into the totesport.com Central Division this season but the side finished bottom of the table without a win.

Megson told the official SWFC site: 'I believe there will be no reserve team football in three years' time. I know of at least three Premiership teams who will not have a reserve team next season.

'As far as Sheffield Wednesday are concerned, our reserve games have become glorified youth games with too much emphasis on the young players who need to focus on their own development.'
