Mellor named Player of the Month

Wednesday striker Neil Mellor has won the npower League One Player of the Month award for his top-drawer performances throughout April.

Mellor, on a season-long loan from Preston North End, netted an impressive return of six goals from seven matches in the month to guide the Owls to a mid-table position.

The award makes it a double trophy haul for the striker this week, with the former Liverpool hitman also taking the club's Player of the Season award.

Mellor plays his final game for the Owls when Exeter City make the trip to Hillsborough for the final day of the regular League One campaign before returning to Deepdale.

But his end-of-season goal rally, and awards double, could see a 'tug of war' for his services over the summer, with Wednesday thought to be interested keeping him permanently, Preston boss Phil Brown seemingly interested in talking to him, and Brighton & Hove Albion also linked with the striker in the press.

His form in April has certainly caught the eye, netting a brace of goals in each of the Owls' wins over Colchester United and Swindon Town respectively, whilst also netting in the 1-1 draw at Walsall and 4-0 victory over Tranmere.

'Every team needs a goalscorer and Neil has proved he is capable of that by scoring 20 goals this season,' Owls boss Gary Megson told the official SWFC website.

'He had a really good month in April, scoring six goals and has shown his best form for Wednesday since I joined the club in February.

'Neil has set that standard, now it is up to him to maintain it.'

Well done Lad! Now let's see if we can't sign him.
Colorado Owl
I hope we can sign him on a perm contract but I can't see us breaking the bank to do it!! I'd rather we lose him than start another era of buying what we can't afford and selling at a loss. I'm sure if Milan can he will but if he can't I'm sure he will spend wisely for the benefit of the club. WTID If it is to be Mellors last game for the club tomorrow then I hope he leaves us with at least hitting the back of the net once more. Even if he doesn't I'll be there after the final whistle to show my appreciation for his service this season. UTO

Thinking about players future with the club by the sounds of it the summer will be an interesting time. No Reserve team next year, Megson has said he wants a 20 outfield player squad with three goal tends and has highlighted 6 players he'd like to sign... Ok there are loan players to return to their parent clubs but this being said I can still see great number of players being released or sold. (If anyone wants to buy them!) A summer of speculation and many movements in and out of our club ahead me thinks!!

Think the revolving door at Hillsborough will be spinning pretty fast over the summer

Well this time next we'll have a better idea of who he is getting rid of it. Be interesting to see what he does with the likes of Lewis Buxton and James O'Connor who have done very well in recent but other than that never been consistent. JJ and Miller will most likely stop. But people like Spurr, Reynolds, M Morrison, Heffernan and Sedgewick? Feel sorry for some because they came in at a bad time where even the players who are playing now weren't playing well. Feel M Morrison and Reynolds deserve another go in a squad playing well. They were chucked in right at the deep end.

SussexOwl I reckon that revolving door will keep spinning with 2 or 3 of our outbound players stuck in it!!
