Buxton linked with Wednesday exit

Wednesday defender Lewis Buxton has been linked with a move away from Hillsborough this summer after the player was seen to have made a 'tearful' goodbye to Owls fans.

Buxton, whose contract is up with Wednesday in the summer, was seen to make a tearful goodbye to Wednesdayites following the final game of the season against Exeter at the weekend.

The defender seemed to thank Owls fans more than his teammates following the 2-1 loss and seemed to be keen to get on the scoresheet, testing the Exeter stopper a number of teams - hinting that it could have been his last game for the club.

The right-back is thought to have caught the attention of npower Championship clubs thanks to his good performances this season and the fact that he will be a free agent.

Owls boss Gary Megson will now have to decide which players to offer a new deal and which to let go with the former Stoke City man's future at stake.

Buxton's performances in the blue and white stripes this season have been one of the few bright spots of a season-to-forget for the Owls, with most Wednesday fans keen to see him remain at S6 next term.

Has been playing a great deal better under Megson... have to admitt he's not the first one I thought would be linked with an exit!! Having said that his second half of the season has generated interest from other clubs which I'm sure isn't the case for players like Potter. Should he stay or should he go??! To be honest not really that bothered... depends more on whether it's best for the club or not!?! Is he on my list of people we have to try and keep... Nope! If he wants to stay and is willing to sign a "leauge 1" level contract extension then ok but if he's not then good luck to him... IMMIT

I think Buxton has given us stirling service and has been full of running this season - look at how many long balls he successfully chased and turned into attacks for us - it says it all that he has kept our two left backs out of the team. He was not at fault for Saturdays goals - their first was down to Jones being hopelessly out of position again. He is also first choice over R Johnson and those other two AI bought that don't feature any more. UTO

Always liked him, not the best player but he can play any where in the back 4 and gives his all. Good player to have in the squad.

If you are leaving Lewis, good luck to you, you've been one of the better servants to swfc. All the very best. I'd love you to get promoted with us though, you deserve a promotion on your CV.

should be offered a new deal agree that he has been one of our best players this season and can play anywhere across the back needs to be kept

I for one would be sad to see a decent, versatile defender leave the club. Lewis has had a good season and deserves a contract extension. I would put many other players in front of him on the queue out the door at S6.... If he is to leave, good luck to him. WTID UTO

Hope this isn't true. He's not the most gifted player but what he lacks in that he makes up for in abundance with determination and graft. Who know's what's going on behind the scenes at present. This will be the first of many stories in the close-season!

Didn't think much of him under Irvine but he's been one of only few that can hold his head high, always gives 110% that's what we need a grafter and someone who plays for the club, if you do go lewis hope you go to a good solid club and progress.

Puzzled as to why we wouldn't look to keep hold of Buxton. Half of our problem this season is that some of our players haven't put the effort in or been up for the challenge, you cant say that with any real meaning about Buxton.

I for one would have him stay and get rid of daniel jones never liked him seems he likes to run with the ball but not have it under control and is found out of position to many times
