Owls fans await friendly announcements

The season is over, yet already we're looking for that next slice of football action - so who are Wednesday's likely pre-season friendly opponents?

The club has yet to make an announcement on who the Owls will be up against this summer - whether they be part of an overseas tour, Premier League opposition, or regular fixtures against local sides.

We're expecting that announcement to come sooner rather than later - Vital understands the majority of the friendly fixtures have been arranged, but a few i's need to be dotted and t's need to be crossed.

Various opponents have been mentioned, with Stoke City, one of Owls boss Gary Megson's former clubs, being linked as Wednesday's potential Premier League opponents at Hillsborough.

Games against local rivals Leeds United, at home, and Barnsley, away, have also been doing the rounds. They seem ideal in terms of competition and ease of access for fans, although policing costs could well pose a problem.

Owls fans can expect the usual summer clash against Stocksbridge Park Steels, probably closer towards the start of the season with a mix of youth and first-team players, while a game against Worksop Town have also been mentioned.

The club are keeping details about any kind of pre-season tour under wraps, if there is one at all - at least, open for fans to go over and watch, and not just a training camp.

With the season now done, as far as Wednesday are concerned, we expect these announcements within the next few weeks. Keep checking Vital Wednesday for all the latest updates.
