Megson targets nine new arrivals

Wednesday boss Gary Megson has revealed he's drawn up a list of nine players he wants to bring to Hillsborough over the summer.

The Owls boss was initially looking at six new arrivals to bolster his squad over the close season but has now increased his wishlist to nine.

Six would come in on free transfers and the other three would require a fee. Megson has also revealed that some are well-known to Wednesday fans.

'Milan and Paul have been given the names. I'm delighted that they've already made inroads,' Megson told the Sheffield Star.

Former Owls loan star Neil Mellor, who bagged 20 goals for the club last season, is believed to be one of the nine, while Megson has also spoken highly of Rob Jones and Danny Batth, who also impressed on loan.

Those three would all require fees for their services, but Megson has refused to name any names.

It means the club could well be looking to bring the players in sooner rather than later, to have the majority of the close season to work togetehr as a team.

Would love Billy Jones but I don't see it with us having Otsemobor and offering Buxton a new contract. Oakley rumour sounds very strong would be a great signing. I can see 2 of the money signings being Rob Jones and Neil Mellor wasn't overly impressed with Batth but think Beevers will be a key player under Megson. R Johnson has looked better under Megson just feel for Reynolds and Morrison as they are clearly two good young players who were thrown into a squad were at the time even our good players were awful.

haven't heard the oakley rumour. not overly impressed that after all the years of having no money, when we finally get some we look at free transfers - i know it's wrong but i just want to see a decent transfer fee paid for somebody... just for the sake of paying a fee for once.
Carbone's Padawan
Megson has always been good at signing players (Cahill, Elmander and Lee and Bolton for examples) it was him getting the best out of them that was the problem
SheffWed93
Padawan can't see them paying the substantial amounts we would like them too, I'd rather spend little in this league, hopefully ge promoted claw some money back for Milan then have a good spend in the championship.

Benni Carbone, Michele Di Piedi... Adem Poric???

I know what you're saying Carbone's Padawan about a transfer fee but there are some very good free transfers out there and we can at least be more competitive with wages now!

I'd be delighted to have all 3 loan players back, I think batth is technically a much better centre half than Jones, or certainly has the potential to be, but I would say Jones is a more important signing because of his leadership. Now Millers gone, is anyone else expecting him to be signed and made captain?

Francesco Sanetti?
Carbone's Padawan
Can't be Christian Mayrleb he's just signed for FC Pasching, sorry if this disapoints anybody!
