Knill expects Owls offer for Jones

Scunthorpe United boss Alan Knill says there has been no contact with the Owls over a permanent move for Rob Jones - but is expecting a bid over the coming weeks.

Jones impressed during a seven-week loan spell at Hillsborough, playing a part in guiding Wednesday away from relegation danger and into a safe mid-table position in npower League One.

He's thought to be on a wishlist of nine players that Owls boss Gary Megson wants to bring to Hillsborough on a permanent basis for a push for promotion next season.

And, with the former Hibernian centre-back seemingly surplus to requirements with Scunthorpe, Knill is expecting Wednesday to make an offer for the defender this summer.

'He's done really well there, so I would expect some interest,' Knill told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

'The indication is that they are quite happy with him, so I would expect us to have some sort of communication with Sheffield Wednesday.

'Whether we'll be asking for a fee for him I'm not sure, that's not really my shout.'

The Iron paid an initial 350,000 to Hibs for Jones and they could be looking to recoup some of that, with Wednesday in a position to match their demands thanks to the arrival of Milan Mandaric as chairman.

Megson wants to bring nine players to the club this summer and has revealed that all nine are British players, with six being free transfers and three requiring a fee.

lets get him in and make him captain need experiance at the back jones was excellant when on loan here
I agree...with Miller gone he is the ideal candidate for club captain. He's no frills but doesn't appear to have the howlers in him that Purse used to have. Let's make this one happen sooner rather than later SWFC.
Dont get the Purse lovers going Don!
Owls That!
My only slight concern is he came off a few times injured a few times. Hope it was due to lack of games and a good preseason would sort that out.
Chris Porter has been released from Derby, the sort of player Megson likes!
What sort do you mean - *****?
Jones is injury prone so if we sign him expect him to miss a few games, with our physio team being one of the best in the Country I say sign him.
Jason Koumas' name has been branded about. Reckon he'd be a class addition but think he's maybe a cut above what we could attract in league one.
Carbone's Padawan
Megson took Koumas to WBA so bit of history but doubt he'd drop down to our league!
Owls That!
Well koumas has been on loan at cardiff this season and has only played 5 times, i reckon he will just want to get some football anywhere now.
any other goss? it's all gone quiet hasn't it? that said, I'd rather it be quite then us getting linked with Claude Davis.
Carbone's Padawan
I think we should get Tony Yeboah.
Carbone's Padawan
Koumas hasn't played much for Cardiff but am sure he'd get offered regular football elsewhere in The Championship. Shame though as we need someone to orchestrate as we're devoid of ideas from the middle of the park!
If we bought in Koumas I could understand letting Miller go and maybe begin to forgive Megson
I think you can only really start to judge Megson after seeing who he brings in during the summer.
I'm still wondering how the squad is going to be cut so dramatically. If Megson and Milan are sure it's going to be 23 man squad (including the 3 goal keepers) there's some serious chopping to do. How I've worked it out is we had 33 players. 6 Loan (including Mellor) which at the moment we can discount gets us to 27, 2 released Miller and Hinds gets us to 25 but then if Megson brings 9 in we have 34 again this means to me at least that there are still 11 more players we are going to get shot of... if we wanted changes I think they are coming. I hope Mellor and R Jones return and I'm looking forward to seeing what players Nyoni and Palmer become. UTO
I really hope the first new name to the club is such a cracking signing that we all take a sudden step back and gasp. IMMIT
Oh and one last thing I've caught up with a load of comments and I can't understand the issue with Megson signing players on "Free's" doesn't mean that they are bad players, just means they're out of contract. If giving them the deals they want brings them in and it means that we can spend more money on the 3 players we really need to front transfer fees on then it makes good finacial sence... Linked to my previous comment though regards Squad size I guess the cull will have to be dramatic to manage the wage bill effectively. WTID
