JJ expected to pen Owls deal

Jet-heeled winger Jermaine Johnson is expected to agree a new contract with Wednesday this summer, according to reports.

The Jamaican wing wizard was offered a new deal to stay at Hillsborough by boss Gary Megson, along with James O'Connor and Lewis Buxton, and expects him to agree to new terms.

Johnson's contract expires this summer and he could leave the Owls on a free transfer is he saw his future away from the npower League One side.

The former Bolton Wanderers and Bradford City player has been a key figure in Wednesday's squad since his arrival in 2007 and Megson sees him as vital to the Owls' bid for promotion next term.

Other clubs are understood to have shown an interest in the Jamcaican international, but if reports are to be believed he'll be pulling on the blue and white stripes next season.

always wanted 2 keep jj inconsistent but can win games on his own be interesting 2 see what meggo has got planned for him !
Glad to hear he is on the brink of spurning the interest that other clubs have shown in him to stay and play for us... Read this on the Star website a couple of hours back. Sounds Like Megson is narrowing the pitch a bit as well as re-building the squad. Should mean that JJ has less space to run into but inturn may mean he has more gas in the tank at home??! UTO
i'm surprised megson offered him a contract as I wouldn't have thought he was megson's type of player. anyway lets hope he can repay some of the faith that has been shown in him next season because based on his contribution to the cause in the last few years he should have been out of the door
Hirsty's Shinpads
I think the same Hirsty's Shinpads would'nt have got a contract for me, lets hope Gary can give him the kick up the ass that he most certainly needs.

I'm glad to hear he's about to put pen to paper as I like his style when he gets a fire under his, but I think it will be a foolish move if Megson expects him to be our primary hit man. We're going to need a couple of reliable scorers who can play 90min in our starting lineup. Anything less will lead to more of the same, I'm afriad... and the fans and MM deserve a heck of lot more than the mediocrity and inconsistency that we've been seeing lately.

I think he's worth a punt. At the end of the day, he's good to even have as a sub. He's hardly going to be on mega bucks, so why not? It's not like we're having to mess about with petty cash - we have Milan mandaric for gods sake1

JJ must be worth another contract, whether its a year or two.Showed what he is capable of in last game with a cracking goal.We have no other player who could score a goal like that. When he runs at defenders with his pace he is a real threat and i love to watch him do it.However,he is so inconsistant and frustrating.Hope Megson can sort him out and improve his stamina so that he can play for more than an hour, both at home and away.
leons gloves
so how can any of the the above deem him worthy of another contract? can only play an hour, does nothing away from home and only appears in patches at home when things are going well. too old to change and i'm still not happy about his hospitalization earlier this year
Hirsty's Shinpads
JJ can win matches that is why you endure him when he is not so hot. Not like Potter, for instance, who flatters to deceive all the time. JJ's form has been hit by illness and Irvine trying to make him a striker. Get him on the wing with a pre-season behind him. JJ is going to rip them up. Maybe not, I always thought Esajas was our best player.
I have been trying not to get involved in this thread because I have already made my feelings about JJ known. However, I can hardly think of any player in the clubs recent history that has flattered to deceive more than JJ. Injuries and excuses apart he has been inconsistent since he arrived. Its all the managers that manage him ever talk about. As far as I am concerned he is a massively over-rated player and I'd only keep him on as a League 1 substitute and only then if the salary was suitably low. Fact is that nothing we say about JJ is ever going to change. Most of the time he reminds me of a little kid in the playground that just kicks the ball forwards and runs after it. Sometimes he does something useful that actually comes off and everyone treats him like the next pele on the back of it. He can win games on his own, although I'm not sure he always does it on purpose, and the rest of the time its like playing with 10 men or 11 but with one that you just want to **** off and go home! I knew I shouldn't have got involved!
apologies my negative harping on but someone please tell me when johnson has won a game for us by either scoring or setting up the decisive goal? if anyone can think of one that would be bonus but it would in no way allow him to described a match winner cos this something has to be produced on several occasions
Hirsty's Shinpads
You can describe any player that scores a goal as a match winner. 99% of what JJ does end up with nothing at the end of it. I have no problem with having him about as a sub, if his pay is cheap, but I think all this talk of him winning games on his own and frightening defenders is generally nonsense. Most of the time defenders have an easy ride because when he's not busy doing nothing then he's tackling himself or booting the ball into the stands when trying to shoot or cross. As I said, I think he is massively over-rated by some people because he runs fast past people sometimes, even though he doesn't seem to always take the ball with him. He's like Darren Huckerby with even less skill. Ok, I'll say no more and back him in the hope he manages to do something useful.
Has anyone actually looked at JJ's stats for the season just gone? Not exactly a class act. Inconsistent at the top level or even the Championship can still mean a decent player (Wayne Routledge, Jobi MacAnuff as two perfect examples). We have JJ....he's just bad and sometimes...once in about 10 games provides a decent ball or scores a goal, that's not good enough, and i'll bet he's one of our better paid players.
Will Hoskins to Brighton.
Carbone's Padawan
Glad to have JJ. The whole squad was inconsistent this year? So how can you expect him to shine in a season where everyone from manager to kit man has been useless. Hirsty's Shinpads, I can name many of games where he has made things happen and scored. Sheffield United 2008... Set up Sodje's and ran them ragged. Cardiff 1-0 at Hillsborough he scored a screamer to win it. To name some this season he made Mellors 2nd against Swindon by making the run to get ball when no one expected him too. I could go on...
I think he's worthy of a short-term contract but would hardly call him a match-winner. How many games that he's played in can he be called that. It's what he does when he doesn't have the ball that bothers me most!
lets be honest if jj could play consistently well he would be in the premiership.
taking his time isnt he
Think he's probably on holiday still Mick.
As pointed out, JJ is a couple of decent moments in a couple of games a season. Its not enough.
If Hoskins has gone to Brighton does that mean they will have lost interest in Mellor?
Its funny what a difference a year makes. This time last year we were talking about how JJ would rip this league apart - now whether he is good enough for this league. Sometimes when teams play badly the individuals that are the best stick out the most. Same thing happened to Tudders, who we should never have got rid of.

hes not jet penned though is he.

Bald Owl, I said I could go on... I pointed a few times when he has, so read what ive fully put first. And for all of you... Name 1 player who has been consistent this year? So don't just say JJ has been inconsistent because every player and manager has been. At least on a bad game JJ can still do something, it's not like O'Connor when he has a bad game you never see him. Same for a lot of player E.g Potter, Teale, Sedgewick... " I COULD GO ON...."
he played well against united in 2008! that statement alone shows how well he has played since
Hirsty's Shinpads
SheffWed93 you can carry on as long as you like. I read fully what you said but dont agree and didn't intend in making personal posts to you to ask you to carry on. Not only do I not agree but it appears that none of our managers seem to have agreed with you either; not Laws who bought him, Irvine or Megson now, which is what led to the thread in the first place. The issue of consistency and JJ have gone hand in hand since he arrived, more so than any of the players you have named, and as for having bad games but still doing something. This again is your opinion. In mine, he has far more bad games where he does absolutely nothing, more than the odd ones you bring up, which is why he is the subject of debate so often and finds himself on the bench. We've been relegated and played very poorly this season so obviously JJ has not been the only inconsistent player in the team but the thread isn't about them, although it is true that JJ is not alone.
I'm one of his biggest critics i'll admit but as frustrating as he is, bringing him off the bench with say half an hour or so to go (anymore and he himself will be whacked!) I think is to valuable an option not to have next season! More than likely in that half an hour he wont score or set up anything but his pace and sheer madness could lead to mistakes by defenders and midfielders alike so is worth a punt! I wouldn't start him though, that would loose us more games than win!
Owls That!
That's how I see him and that's all I'm saying, so long as he's not getting paid too much.
Me too, impact player from the bench if needed. We need 11 fully committed players on the pitch at the start of the match and can't afford to carry anyone!
