Owls complete double swoop

Wednesday have made their first signings since the end of the season in the shape of former Leeds United man David Prutton and former loanee Rob Jones.

Vital reported earlier today that the duo were close to penning deals at Hillsborough, and the club has officially announced both as new Owls players this afternoon.

Both have signed two-year deals and have signed on free transfers, with Jones arriving from Scunthorpe United and Prutton signing from Swindon Town.

Jones made a big impression while on loan at Wednesday from the Iron last season, making eight appearances at centre-back, while Prutton comes in to bolster the Owls midfield.

Owls boss Gary Megson said: 'Our supporters are well aware of the qualities of Rob Jones and I'm really pleased that we've been able to secure him on a permanent contract.

'I've admired David Prutton for a long time and first and foremost he has character and he will put demands on everybody else.'

Megson revealed that he is keen to add nine players to bolster his squad over the summer. Two down, seven to go.

How did we get Jones without even paying a fee? Thats class! Not sure about prutton, hopefully just upgrading joc a little bit.

Glad we got Jones on a free, means we still have 3 players who we will be paying a fee for. Prutton is a bit of a gamble but has plenty of experience and is still a good age. Good start to the summer.

I agree- I think Prutton will take JoC's position (hopefully). He'll give us a bit more bite and energy in midfield. We need another creative entity in midfield though. on a side note, regarding the picture of Rob Jones above... you won't get a much veinier left arm than that.

Over the moon about landing Jones. Well done! Glad to hear that he has a bit of a temper. As long as it doesn't get him sent off, we could use a bit of a brute to keep light a fire under the others (JJ) and keep the energy levels flowing! And, yeah Carbone's Padawan, his left arm looks like a road map!
Colorado Owl
good call Colorado Owl, I can definately make out the M1 now you mention it.

Jones is a fantastic signing and signals a different type of drive this season. I'm glad Megson has gone for people who we know can do a job at big clubs - Jones for us and Prutton did for Leeds. Two good signings, bring on the next seven!

Prutton a great signing, though i do remember him decking a referee/linesman a few years back when he was playing for Southampton. Grown up a bit since then i think.

cracking start these 2 - jones will be immense i'm sure - and prutton should be one to be counted on when games get a bit scrappy he doesn,t mind getting stuck in a bit when needed but can pick a pass aswell! did jones miss a defensive header for us on loan cos if he did i missed it ?
wedalways
Top start, were normally dragging arse at signing players always at the last second but a great start and a sign of determination.

So who thinks that one of these two is the new club captain?? Jones was captain at Hibs and Megson has said "Prutton is a character who will make demands on the players around him" I think one of them will have the arm-band come the start of the season ahead! UTO

Not sure with prutton whether to be impressed or worried, he has always been a decent player but I would have said he would be good but it hasn't worked out at Swindon. Should only sign players off relegated teams if they stood out (e.g. Parker West Ham (if you are PL) or Hoskins Bristol Rovers (good signing brighton)). Does anyone know if Prutton did?

Pleased we signed Jones - he is quality

Rob Jones should be a good signing for us,very good in the air which you need to be for a centre back in this league. Not sure about Prutton, played nearly every game for Swindon and they finished bottom.Anyone remember him when we played them near end of season because I cant? But hopefully he can prove me wrong and help us push on for promotion.

I think we have to be careful judging players on how they play for the clubs they were with. Take Clinton Morrison as an example... he was class when he played against us but the team he played in was geard to play for him. If Prutton fits how we are going to play then he will do a good job. A good player is a good player if he gives his all and is played in a system that suits. Prutton has proved himself... Now he has to prove himself as an Owl! He represents a decent signing but is only as good as the contributions he has yet to make. UTO

Jones has proved himself as an Owl and I think he's the sort of "old school" proper defender to keep on proving why we signed him! I hope to see him bosing the back as he did in his 8 appearences, in addition I hope he has a fellow centre that makes us the defensive unit that has other teams scratching their heads to get round. From the Star “Also I’ve been a Wednesday fan all my life, so that was a big factor.” loving this Jones quote... those that understand the requirements of the Blue and White faithful are coming to the club. Unlike those playing for their wages alone there will be "true passion" in the team once more... Weaver has shown how a player that loves the club plays and with these two building on the better performances at the tail end of the season... I can't be anything other than hopeful for what is to come, as the season ticket said when they weren't the cards ion the front sleeve. "IGNITE THE PASSION!" AWAW??

If we don't get Batth then I would like to see him try and establish a partnership with Reda Johnson. His CB partner will need decent pace otherwise we'll be sitting deep and asking too much of the midfield next season - whoever that will be!
TheDon1974
wanted jones back showed his quality when he was here on loan and we need experiance at the back good signing as for prutton am unsure seems to be in the same mould as potter has the potential but does'nt really show it
retfordowl1867
Prutton is out of the same mould as potter but they put more metal in!! He can make good passes under pressure, given time can pull out a wonder pass and can also get his foot in effectively(Unlike potter). I'm with ya Don in regards to Jones's partner personally the understanding shown between Batth and Jones in only a few games together makes Batth a must!! If we don't get him I'm not sure who to play... I think I would say Beavers being that he's the pace that Reda lacks. Actually that's a bit unfair on Reda he has pace it's lack of acceleration and stopping that cause concern.... don't think we've seen the best of him yet, think the closed season may benefit him never know he may come back having worked on both attributes. UTO

Prutton definitely has the potential and has played well at this level and higher in the past, just worries me when you sign a player soming off what is most likely a poor season. He wasn't a favourite of the swindon fan i know but that is just one person! I guess the fun begins now we are signing people, this time next year we'll be planning for The Championship!!!
realrain
I know what you're saying 4evaOWL and hopefully the close-season and a full pre-season will benefit all those players signed in January!
