Dale duo linked with Owls move

Rochdale duo Chris O'Grady and Scott Wiseman have been linked with summer moves to Hillsborough.

The duo are on Owls boss Gary Megson's hit list this close season as he looks to add nine new faces to bolster the Wednesday squad for a promotion push next season, according to the Sheffield Star.

Both players featured for the Spotland club as they put Wednesday to the sword with a 2-1 victory in Lancashire this season - one of Megson's first games in charge.

He clearly liked what he saw and could follow up his interest with bids for the duo in the coming weeks.

Former Leicester City and Rotherham United hitman O'Grady is a powerful forward and scored nine goals for Dale from 49 appearances this season, helping them to the verge of the play-offs.

Wiseman, 25, came through the Hull City youth ranks but has come of age since joining Keith Hill's side, making 41 appearances last season as a full-back.

Wednesday have already signed midfielder David Prutton from Swindon Town and centre-back Rob Jones from Scunthorpe United.

Should be noted that O'Grady has played on the left wing most of the season, set quite a few up. I live in Rochdale, they love him up here.

A 6ft 3in left winger?! Just a little concerned that we may be adding another big front-man and turning into a one-trick pony so hope this isn't true. The right-back sounds like he may have a little pedigree though having played for England at U20 level.
TheDon1974
Yep, He played up front for them in league 2, but has been pushed out wide this season according to a Dale fan i work with. That and he played out on the left both games against us.
DEZZYP
i shouldn't have watched barcelona the other night because this type of news is completely underwhelming in comparison. at least it is good to hear that O'Grady is well thought of
Hirsty's Shinpads
I can't see it to be honest, think Rochdale will probably looking for a decent fee for him, much more than he's worth.
DEZZYP
No thank you. If O'Grady and Wiseman are the best we can expect with signings don't expect much throughout the season.
SheffWed93
Sheffwed93 who are you expecting us to sign, clearly megsons putting a squad together that will get us out of this league, I doubt they're building a squad to chase promotion in the championship, we've got to do things right and it seem for the first time in a long time that we've got a strategy
OWL25
If we get promoted this season coming, I'm sure a squad will be built round the championship and build for the charge to the premiership, I like the idea he's building a strong league one team, good players from the same league.
OWL25
I agree OWL25, we are in division 3 after all sheffwed93, stop living in the past as your name suggests and get off Megsons back.
ecco owl
I have nothing against signing Wiseman and if Buxton doesn't re-sing we will need a first-choice RB but another 6ft 3in striker could well turn us into a one-trick pony as I mentioned before.
TheDon1974
I will say this about O'Grady, he's not the target man expected at that hight, he's more about pace, footwork and running at people, the more i think about it the more im starting to warm to the idea. Certainly a rough diamond, but i wouldnt judge if youve only seen him a couple of times, he played quite well against us at spotland when they beat us. As for wiseman, he was actually released last summer by rochdale, but invited back because they couldnt get anybody else at late notice, and by all accounts has been their best player this season. I work with a diehard rochdale supporter. Dont forget, Rochdale has been a good place for strikers to get their careers going recently.....Grant Holt, Ricky Lambert, Le Fonfre, Dagnell.
DEZZYP
Owl25... Who are you expecting us to sign? I think players like Jason Koumas who we've been linked with will be great. Just don't feel these two would improve what we have. I can think of better players out there on frees than Chris O'Grady. As for right back I think Otsemobor and Buxton are better players.
SheffWed93
SheffWed93, how many times have you watched either of them?
DEZZYP
Agree koumas would be a mega signing for us, But these players were looking at are to get us out of the division and that's it job done, build again. I'm already enjoying the speculation and think were going to have an enjoyable season with more ups than downs. I think meggys doing a brill job at the moment, will he get us all the way to tje promiseland, I doubt it but I think he's gonna have a real good go and that is what we've been missing. Passion.
OWL25
I agree with a lot of the statements above. However, on the one hand we're telling ourselves not to expect to sign too decent a player this summer as we're not a 'big' club any longer, and on the other hand, a fair amount of the average players we signed in January have bottled playing for a 'big' club for some reason....Strange one as i agree that we cannot consider ourselves to be a big team (11 years in the wilderness does that to you) but by signing low calibre players, they cannot cope with the big stage we put them on.
Balli80
Ecco how does my "name" suggest I live in the past? haha and when did I mention Megson? I just said these weren't the types of players we need? Dezzy are you Rochdale or Wednesday? Owl 25 I think you don't get what i'm saying is there is a lot better out there than these two lads? Right back is an area we don't need and I would be a little dissapointed with someone like O'Grady because there is a lot better out there strikerwise, Mellor and Tyson? I would much prefer them of course Tyson would be a great signing but an unlikely one. But then with the likes of Craig Davies and Adam Le Fondre available surely they're of a better standard than Chris O'Grady?
SheffWed93
SheffWed93, i am wednesday clearly who just so happens to live in rochdale. am i right to presume you have never actually watched those 2 play? and are basing your assesment on them playing for little rochdale? if you had watched them, o'grady inparticular you would see that he is a very talented lad.
