Spurr expected to depart Wednesday

Owls defender Tommy Spurr is expected to leave Hillsborough for pastures new this summer.

The full-back's future has been up in the air since the arrival of Gary Megson as manager and the need to rebuild the squad ahead of a promotion push next season.

And Spurr, who came through the Owls Academy, could be one of the casualties this summer. Milan Mandaric, the Owls chairman, has revealed to BBC Radio Sheffield that Spurr will be on the move this close season.

The Dewsbury-born defender has been linked with a move to Yorkshire rivals Leeds United and Steel City rivals Sheffield United, while Nottingham Forest have also been mentioned as being interested in his services.

The 23-year-old has made over 200 appearances in the famous blue and white stripes and became somewhat of a fans' favourite at Hillsborough, despite coming in for some criticism last season.

Hope we get some good money for him. We've spent years developing him....

He wore the shirt with pride and always give full commitment. I would have thought we would be better realeasing Jones, who on the last few showings has been hopeless. Thank-you Tommy for your commitment and loyalty. We will always remeber your wonder goals!

What a joke! Tommy Spurr is leaving. How can anyone on this planet think this is good? Jones and Reynolds are worse than Spurr. How is it he is being linked with Leeds and Forest but Can't get in our team? Yet again Megson is making a clueless decision.

Well let's see who Megson brings in to replace him before we criticise too much. In all honesty Spurr hasn't kicked on in the last couple of seasons and he really hasn't been linked with anyone decent in the past 12 months or so, these are past links.

So we let a player go to teams in the championship, seems like a great re-building exercise

shocking decision for me Tommy has been one of the only one of our players that actually care about the shirt and the fans - spot on 10goalpayne what a great re-building process lets hope the decisions get better from here on in??

We'll get no more than 250,000 for Tommy if we're lucky. He's been a non-entity for us, an under-performing league 1 side. So how much would a left-back acting as a squad player fetch with all the above in mind? Not much is the answer. I for one am gutted. I always liked Spurr and I do actually rate him. Shame.

didn't think about that owl25 but if it was Tommy that wanted to go it's a bit ok a smack in the face that 2 of the clubs apparently looking at him are the blunts and leeds!! if it was only these 2 that go in for him do you think he would go????

always gave 100% and I liked him best when he played centre half (on the very odd occasion). as a full back he continually got beaten to the byline, failed to cut crosses out and gave away freekicks in dangerous positions. i'm sure we can find a better defender. anyway good luck tommy

One of my former students was in the academy with him and is still good friends. Says Tommy lived and loved football in a way no one else in the academy did (probably what got him in the jersey). This has got to be hard for Tommy, as he's a true Wednesdayite. It's too bad that it didn't work out for him and I wish him all the very best.

Buxton is a far better left back. I would kept Tommy but he needs to move on. Dan Jones is utter Rubbish and Reynolds needs more time to see can make the change here.

agree fully with dicanio1974, should have gone last season, he's a shocking player and looks a nervous wreck at left back

He's not bee a first-team regular for a while now and must still be on Championship wages too. Maybe it's as much about the finances than anything else. Not only that, Spurr may want a new challenge if he's not playing regularly?!

think we'll get Danny Green then or will the Championship interest be more lucrative for him!??

Craig Davies at Chesterfield has just signed a pre-contract with Barnsley.25 goals last season, would love us to have signed him.Would have been great signing, especially if we could get Danny Green as well.

Shame about Davies and wonder if we even 'tried' to get him? Semedo would be a decent shout but with him AND Prutton there would be no need for JOC any longer and he may find his contract offer rescinded!

I'm not that gutted at this - Spurr wasn't playing for a reason. He didn't show up last season and, though I like the lad and I think he's served the club well, I wouldn't be mortified to see him go. I think Reynolds will step up to the plate next season, which would Spurr on the bench anyway.
