Megson confirms Semedo approach

Wednesday boss Gary Megson has confirmed the Owls are locked in talks to sign out-of-contract Charlton Athletic midfielder Jose Semedo.

Megson has told the Sheffield Star that he has travelled down to London for talks with the 26-year-old Portuguese man and that a deal is now 'in the hands of Milan [Mandaric] and Paul [Aldridge].'

Semedo was the Addicks' Players' Player of the Year last season but is out of contract at The Valley this summer.

Charlton are understood to be offering Semedo a new deal to stay at the club, but the Owls new-found power in the transfer market, for League 1 standards at least, could be a big advantage.

Addicks boss Chris Powell has already revealed he's keen to hold on to the defensive midfielder, who arrived in England from Sporting Lisbon as a centre-back.

interesting this one he's another solid midfielder along with prutton but still no great creativity hopefully this means we will be going after green again and another quick winger that can create something for the strikers

think that we are trying to strengthen the midfield as he's a defensive man this mean o'connor is going ?
retfordowl1867
maybe he's planning a 3 man central midfield with 2 full out wingers bombing forwards supporting and passing striker????

I think we proved last season that you really need a CM that will break the line past the striker(s) on occasion. Otherwise you become one-dimensional with a big man up front. Maybe wide men with better delivery could change all that?!

quite happy with this link - would be please to see him sign up if it comes to fruition.

Same. He's a decent player.

I don't think that Semedo coming necessarily means that joc is off. I think that if say we get him and Danny Green I'd be pleased, but too many players like this mean that we'll lack creativity. Nonetheless, the odd one can't hurt?

Would be a good signing. Think we need to clear our the centre mid such as Potter (Especially), O'Connor and maybe Giles Coke but we saw very minimal sparks from him in the first half of the season. I would be a lot happier without O'Connor if we got Semedo.

Finally I've been saying for ages that we needed a solid defensive midfielder!

would be a good signing, hope we get him, i think we should concentrate on getting the better players from this league who can then step up if (when ;-) ) we het promoted. JOC will be a bit part next season, bring him on for an attacking player when we need to protect a lead. for me its all about madine and whatever dent wingers/atacking midefielders we can get.

i heard from some employee at the training ground the other week that michael morrison left by mutual consent at the end of last season, but i've never seen anything official. has anyone else seen anything?
Hirsty's Shinpads
Not sure there's any truth in that to be honest. Surely we would try and recoup a transfer fee first?!
