Heffernan set for Kilmarnock move

Wednesday striker Paul Heffernan is set for a move to SPL side Kilmarnock, according to reports.

The former Doncaster Rovers hitman has failed to make a starting position at Hillsborough his own since making the move last summer and is deemed surplus to requirements at S6.

The 29-year-old still has one year left on his contract at Wednesday but that's set to be cancelled to allow him a move to Rugby Park, according to Skysports.com.

Heffernan was signed by Alan Irvine from Doncaster last summer but made just three league starts in the blue and white stripes last term, with 14 league appearances coming from the bench, scoring three goals.

Owls boss Gary Megson is looking to rebuild his squad for a push for promotion next season and is keen for players to leave Hillsborough as well as arrive.

Killie are keen to bag his services and a deal could well be done in the coming days.

Wasn't given a fair chance by Irvine or Megson. Always came off bench and gave his best so what else was there he could do? He wanted to play for us which is something we can't say about most. Good luck Heff.

absolutely gutted, gave 110% whenever he played and scored a few from coming off bench he jus didnt get a chance :(
SGoodwin94
If it means we get a proven goalscorer, then I can't complain. Agree with SW93 & SG94 though - he just wasn't given a chance. Good luck to him.

Can not understand this at all. One of the most honest players at our club. He was given a chance and usally scored when he came on. Sad to see him leave.

Good luck to him - surprised no fee involved!

How do you know we'll get a proven goalscorer? Heft got 3 of bench and has proven many times he is a Proven goal scorer at this level. Plus he makes things happen. Clinton Morrison was suppose to be a proven goalscorer and hes a flop. So you never know Heff proved he could play how do we know another signing could flop when we knew we had a player in Heff.
SheffWed93
heff was never given a fair go in my oppinion one of the only player we have that looked like he wanted to play for us other than weaver and could not have done more than he did with what he was given. good luck heff hope you bang them in up there

I have to agree with all that's already said, especially SheffWed93. When I read this the first thing I thought of was Clinton Morrison. Out of the two there's no doubt who I'd rather take for a promotion challenge next year. I'm sure Heff will go on and show what he never had the chance to show with us.

ditto above comments, good look heff

good luck heff, though i have to disagree with much of what is written on here, even in the games he DID play, he was very average, a few glimpses of quality but nothing there really. if you think we will get promotion with "honest" players then youre in for a shock, we would have a team of JOC's.

could never understand why morrison was picked ahead of heff as he always put in 100% and he showed when he came on if he did not score he always laid it on for someone else,he will be a great signing for killie and I hope he shows the owls what they will be missing good luck heff
Owlet
why do people love him so much? he wasnt such great potatoes.
ozzietheowl
I think it's because we have all been saying that he deserves a decent chance and thought when mellor got injured he would get one but for some reason beyond all of us he was still overlooked. If he was given a fair go and still came up short maybe we would have less sympathy for him but we will never know
wedalways
Totally agree wedalways, he never got the chance to prove himself (good or bad). He must feel like he just wasted a year of his career sat on a bench and I bet when he first signed he was well up for the S6 challenge. I wish him all the best and hope he goes on to storm the SPL...

Agree with the other posts, really gutted to hear this.Heff always gave us 110% effort and always looked like he could get us a goal.Actually looked like he really wanted to wear the shirt, unlike alot of the others.Good luck Heff,I hope you score a sackful of goals in the SPL and prove Irvine and Megson wrong.I for one am sorry you are leaving instead of Clinton Morrison.

all i can say is there must be a striker lined up to replace him question is who ?
retfordowl1867
Official site reports Heff has left by mutual consent.
The Fantham
thanks heff all the best
wedalways
Totally agree with nearly all the comments above (ozzie???) Never given a proper run and would have taken him over Morrison anyday. Morrison promised much and delivered nothing hope Heffs ripsit up in the SPL next season. All the best Heffs
