Owls to host Blackpool in Carling Cup

Wednesday have been drawn at home against Ian Holloway's Blackpool in the first round of the Carling Cup.

The draw for the competition took place this morning and Wednesday, who were unseeded in the northern section of the draw, will have home advantage against the Tangerines.

The Owls missed out on any local derby matches - Wednesday could have come up against seeded sides Sheffield United, Leeds United, Huddersfield Town, Doncaster Rovers or Barnsley.

Instead they'll face a tough task against Blackpool, who were relegated on the final day of the Barclays Premier League season last term.

The pick of the other matches will see a local derby when Nottingham Forest face Notts County, while AFC Wimbledon could return to their former ground, Selhurst Park, if they beat Crawley Town in the preliminary round tie and face Crystal Palace.

Sheffield United travel to Hartlepool United, Rotherham United host Leicester City and Barnsley will host Morecambe.

The ties will be played in the week commencing Monday, August 8.
