Owls reject Barnsley offer for Beevers

Wednesday are understood to have turned down an offer of around 200,000 from Barnsley for defender Mark Beevers.

New Reds boss Keith Hill is looking for a replacement for Jason Shackell, who has left Oakwell for Derby County, and Barnsley-born Beevers is seemingly on his hit list.

But Owls boss Gary Megson rates the 21-year-old highly and is keen to hold on to the centre-back, especially for the low price being offered by the Tykes.

Hill could return with a higher offer for Beevers but Wednesday, under the chairmanship of Milan Mandaric, are no under no pressure to sell their better players.

Wednesday have already signed the experienced Rob Jones for next season and Megson could opt to pair Beevers with the former Scunthorpe United man next season, especially if no deal is possible for young Wolves centre-back Danny Batth.

Selling Beevers would be a huge mistake. Especially for such a derisory amount. Hang on to this lad.
Carbone's Padawan
haha 200,000 dingles are having a laugh, no 21 year old that has played at championship level, has lots of games under his belt and and is a solid CB is worth 200,000...800,000 for beevers at the very least!!!!
SGoodwin94
i'd sell him for 800k. he hasn't progressed very much in the last 2 years and he is out of position loads. i hope megson can get more from him if he stays
Hirsty's Shinpads
so would I but he could go on to be alot better in the next three years or so
SGoodwin94
200k?! did they honestly think we'd let him go for that much? i agree with around 800k. why dont they sign branston he's about their level.
nevabeatdes
Not a big fan, only young i suppose makes lots of mistakes.Megson rates him may prove us wrong.200k way to low from those idiots tho !
dicanio1974
I would except 500,000 myself, if we only got 200,000 for Spurr, can't see how Beevers can be worth much more, for me they have both gone backwards, but if it's Barnsley asking, make it a round million.
ecco owl
Correct ecco owl god knows how we got owt for spurr!!!
dicanio1974
If teams (Championship ones at that) are looking to buy players like Spurr and Beevers from us and no interest is shown in Reynolds and Morrison then surely we'd be mad not to keep hold of them? I would potentially let Spurr go because LB is not his preferred position and we have adequate cover on the left side of CB but certainly not Beevers!
TheMightyBoosh
would keep hold of beevers as i believe with a decent partner that he hasn't got to worry about where they are i think mistakes would be alot fewer
wedalways
Just because they are championship clubs doesnt make them transfer wizards who know it all. Id keep Beavers for this season, under Megson he started showing some half decent form towards the end of the season before injury.
DEZZYP
these championship sides cant have seen spurr play in my eye,he will be totally out of his depth next season in the championship stuggled even in div 1.Football sometimes amazes me !!Beavers may come good and prove to everyone again he can do a job lets hope so.
dicanio1974
Some players really dont progress till mid 20's and see Beevers as one of those players? I think if we sold him we'd be regretting it in a few years! Like wedalways said, with a decent partner he's a great player. When we were in Championship he was brilliant under Laws and had the like of Everton and Newcastle looking at him for 2m so the proof is there! Just cant remember who his partner was?! I want to say Lee Bullen???? Which would make sense as playing next to him would inspire anyone!
Owls That!
Owls That!, think it might have been Wood, played his best football alongside him.
DEZZYP
was Wood I thought we had a solid young foundation to build on then!! what happened
wedalways
DiCanio1974 and DezzyP, maybe the Championship clubs will play him in his preferred position on the left side of CB and he may be a totally different player under a new manager. Suppose only time will tell...
TheMightyBoosh
Potter signs a 1 year contract at M.K Dons.
ecco owl
I know Im going to get slated for saying this but we need to keep hold of Beavers, just like we should of kept hold of Richard Wood. I know he was only interested in money but all in all football is full of these type of people. I thought the 2 CBs would of made a cracking partnership in time.
joseph10
Wood yeah, brilliant partnership that was! Balls!
Owls That!
Buxton has signed on again though which is good news I think!
Owls That!
Owls That, I would say that Buxton re-signing is the best news so far this summer. Even more so than the signings or Jones and Prutton!
TheMightyBoosh
Owls That. The point i was making , they would of been. Not was.
joseph10
Jesus, I remember not long ago he was linked with a 3million move to Everton, how things change
wrighty-swfc
joseph 10, the point I was making was they were, not would have been! which i think alot of people will agree with!
Owls That!
i agree joseph10. you need to bear in mind tho with wood that he wasn't on particularly high wages at wednesday and coventry offered him 12k a week (4 times his owls wage). regardless of being a wednesday fan or not it is just plain silly to turn that money down. so i don't feel any animosity to wood
Hirsty's Shinpads
Cant see it Mighty dont matter where you play Spurr hes just not very good apart from on the bench.
dicanio1974
Agreed. Nice to see an reply given with some thought Hirsty. Owls T*at. how can you say that 2 CBs, both under 20 at the time, both being looked at by Prem clubs, and both coming through the ranks could/ or dont have the foundations to make a good partnership? What more could you ask for? I know it was not possible at the time with RW due to cash but would I would rather see the chairman dig a little deeper to try and keep players like these. Agree or disagree try replying with more than just writing the word Balls
joseph10
Am I writing in Hebrew here? (a semitic language for your benefit) I am saying they were a good partnership and would've only gone on to be better! If you're capable of reading the original post I made I was saying how good Beevers was with Wood (who I couldn't remember at the time and which DEZZY pointed out) The second post I made then goes on to say "Wood yeah" - as in it was Wood (and not Bullen) - and "brilliant partnership that was" - as in it was a brilliant partnership (pretty clear statement) - and by "Balls" I mean balls that went wrong. I appreaciate I may not have been crystal clear what I was saying but try reading things twice and responding with more constructive statements before you go calling people a t*at you ignorant moron.
Owls That!
Ah! I see. Please accept my apologies, as the way a read it I thought you were being sarcastic on both posts. Sorry once again.
joseph10
200k for Beevers is pretty low given his potential, we no longer have to accept poxy offers for our players as the vultures flew off when MM rode into town. I'd like to see him stay and develop into the player he looked like he'd be a few years ago. Young players often burst onto the scene then tail away for a few seasons before coming good again, I'd like him to come good for us which means not letting him go on the cheap but if someone comes in with 750k to 1 million offer then maybe that'll change things. Like Batth to come back as well as a couple of midfielders and a couple of strikers
